Intel pricing??

Featured Replies

Well, I've got everything for my new computer except the processor. Having been away from this stuff for a while I'm not familiar with Intel's pricing strategy. Do any of you have a feel for when the soonest price reduction might come for the i7 965 processor? I'm getting ready to purchase the 940, but might be persuaded to go with a 965 if there is a price reduction in the near future. It's hard for me to justify the extra $500 right now. Thanks,Jeff

Q1 09, prices will come down, I'm getting ready also, but i'm going to wait and see if they drop.ed

I am less hopefulLook at the Q9650, although probably just stock with pricing determined by the stock holders, I would have expected a large decrease in their price.I have not seen one, is there one?

Intel will never drop the price on their Extreme processor.. and if they do it wont be by muchThey will however work the pricing on the non-extreme procsYou wont see any price moves till well into Q1As for the older processors, I suspect Intel will start making price cuts after xmas and JanuaryThey ain't hurtin so they will make sure they get the price over the xmas rush. I expect we should start to see cuts after Jan 15th for their older line

EE processor pricing only drops when new models are introduced, bumping the price of the previous "Flagship" part down, sometimes by only $100 or so, sometimes up to half. The problem here is that Intel literally *just* introduced the i7 family of products, so don't expect price drops any time soon, at least not at the high end.

So true, even the humble yet steadfast Q6600 has not dropped a whole lot this past year from what I've seen anywaysal
