April 29, 200422 yr Author Humphh!I d/l and installed 0.9.4 and ran it.It's different, but not much. The eyepoint now rotates horizontally in all views except Tower when it is looking ther aircraft. The aircraft is lined up and stationery, where before it was driving around in a circle. The basic joystick controls seem to work i.e., the throttle controls the throttle not the rudder controlling the thottle. But apart from that I don't seem to be much better off.I looked at the instructions and they seem to expect me to go into to dos and start FG by entering a batch file and parameters! Which year are we in, 1980??!I think I have run out of effort on this now and a shame that for the want of some good instruction with the product it might be made to work. Thanks for you perseverance in my interest There has been no interest from anyone else. I hope you have good fun with yours.Nigel
April 30, 200422 yr The rotating viewpoint is most certainly due to what I said it was amd my offer still holds. That was exactly my problem at one point.I run FlightGear on XP and all I had to do was edit the joystick file as I mentioned. No DOS batch file editing of any kind needed wich is probably intented to developpers or Unix/Linux users, if it's not outdated info.Anyhoo, Flight Gear is in developpement and seems it will be for many years. I'm pretty much sure that in a year or less, a more user friendly GUI or something will be out and will ease the configuring tasks. Keep checking on it.I know I'm on Flight Gear for a loonnggg flight :-smile12 simply because the flight feels the most realistic of all the sims I ever flew in my 15 years of flight simming.Q!
April 30, 200422 yr I had exactly the same problems, and I try to show up, how I did fix this thing:basicly:first FG is reading the "name" of the joystick, as you can see in the first lines as you run js_demo.exe (in my case "Microsoft Sidwinder Precision Pro").then FG looks in the /data/joysticks.xml, to find this name in the [...] section. if it matches, FG uses the appropriate configfile (input/xxx/yyy.xml), and only if no match is found, it uses the input/default/joystick.xml.If your Joystickname is shown in js_demo but not known in the joysticks.xml, you can easily add it to the joysticks.xml (copy a section, and chanche the values). Then copy a configfile, that seams to work learly, rename it, and change the values also (see fixing).fixing:I checked with js_demo.exe all buttons und axes, and found out, that there was my problem. i changed the axes-numbers in the related configfile to the values I got from the js_demo and got going. The same I did to the Buttons.Hope that this can help.RegardsNiki
April 30, 200422 yr Author Q,Thanks again for your re-offer of help. But when I run js-demo the axes for the hat switch show in the same columns as the XML file sets (6&7 I think). So I don;t think there is any editing to do.I will see if Niki's suggestion (which sound similar) could help. Thanks again for your continued support.NigelP.S. I am surprised how 'loose' the organisation of FG seems. If the instructions are so out of date how does anyone get it working.
April 30, 200422 yr Author Niki,I thank-you for your help.I found that there was an XML file specific for my model of joystick MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback PRO. I copied that to the root (Flightgear) and assumed that the configuration would be correct.Indeed there is an XML file there for your joystick. Did you not use that file as the correct configuration file and save having to edit anything? With the previous version of FG I even tried choosing the keyboard as control but STILL had this rotation. So I assumed it was not related to the joystick.Nigel
May 1, 200422 yr Author Q and Niki,I thank-you again for your combined help.I copied the XML specific for my joystick into the flightgeardata folder and got some 'imporvement'!The spinning eyepoint had stopped and I had an instrument panel filling the whole screen. BUT when I eventually got an out of cockpit view and tried to use the controls NOTHING worked! In a Chase view I could see that both ailerons and elevator were at full deflection and not moving by the joystick. Also the throttle control would not change the engine. At least with the XML in the previous folder I could move the surfaces! So I think I have made one step forward and three steps back!Niki, I checked js_demo and the joystick name is the same as in the specific XML file, so I think all should be good.I switched to keyboard control and was actaully able to take off, fly and land(ish)! But had the Nav ident constantly bleeping - the time of day was cycling by one day per 3 seconds, with the sun arcing across like in the movie 'The Time Machine'! and occasionally the sound would stop with a strange squelch!Otherwise it all looks good!!!This REALLY is a game!Nigel
May 1, 200422 yr The time rate is controlled by the 't' & 'T' keys - it looks as though you've hit shift-t 'T' as some point to speed up the passage of time.
June 18, 200421 yr >Q,>Thanks again for your encouragement.>I am sure that I have 0.93 and I downloaded it around Apr5.>>My joystick, whilst included in the choices of XML it is the>old gameport version. Hopefully that isn't where I am going>wrong. But I do remember, checking right at the start, that>the throttle on the stick did change the engine note. Also>using the joystick set-up prog that responds to the buttons.>Tho' on the pan view left and pan view right, if I move the>hat switch, it shows 'skipped'.>With the weekend around the corner I have no excuse for not>nailing this.>>Nigel Hi, i was angry that out of the box, the .94 version's "view was out of control" so I edited the "sidewinder-force-feed-pro.xml" and found: and changed to: Hope this helps.stebo
