Dear pilots,I

Hi Hardraade, sorry for asking without doing my

Hi, another newbie here.I've installed Detonator driver for my GF4 card. Specs:Athlon Tbird 1Ghz256 MB RAM64MB GeForce 4 MX440WinXP Home SP1I'm running FGv0.9.6. I tried launching with many different planes, but got booted out with "Fatal error" in the DOS window.Any suggestions, please. TIA.Jason Tan

Is there anymore to it than "Fatal error"? Did the DOS window disappear after it displayed the message?

Fatal error: Failed to gen source. (received from )Is this helpful?

That error message is from Openal. Usually, the way to go about fixing this is by upgrading your sound drivers.

Since nobody replied to your question, you may want to bring it to the FlightGear users' mailing list. You can subscribe to it by following the links at http://www.flightgear.org/mailI am incapable of helping you further, since I don't use Windows myself. My ability to troubleshoot FlightGear is also limited, since I do not take part in writing FlightGear. My job here is just answer the frequently asked questions -- basically telling people what the developers told me.Sorry.

Like the above topic have th same error messages about not finding airports and runways, yet have all the recent sound drivers, and graphics drivers for my PC, which runs XP service pack 2 home edition.Looking at all the treads here seems for many this program does not funtion at all or to get it going you got to be a rocket scientist.

Get a real soundcard, they're much better than those soundchipsyou have on the mainboard.Or2. Use Linux. Linux has its own sound drivers for various soundchips.Maybe you have more luck with this system.

A lot of people didn't noticed there is fgsetup-0.9.8a.exe ( notice the a ) available for download that cures the sound driver problem. There is also people that did random clicks in the advanced section of fgrun that produce wrong parameters that crash the program. Those people should :1. desinstall FlightGear,2. go to C:Documents and SettingsApplication Dataflightgear.org and delete fgrun.prefs3. install fgsetup-0.9.8a.exe

This sim still does not work. Seems to be poorly write for those other than Lunix? Does this ever go at all for XP? From what I have read lots of people with Windows cannot even get it to run. This is the first ever OpenGL game I have not been able to get running and are using the excuse it maybe hardware. It's just badly written for a lot of windows configurations and hardware configurations.Seems many of us will miss out on what looks a good fight sim, unless someone gets their act together and accually writes it to work with XP. This is a progam that seems to work or not, and blaming hardware what a joke.Does not get much support, have subscribed to the forums etc and seems to not be active, and trying to get support for this program what a joke.Trouble is there are so many hardware configurations is the problem, oh well at least I can plug in my Xbox and no worries about compatiblity there. PC's have a long way to go till a decent standard cmes out. Plug in an Xbox, or PS2 and no problems.

> From what I have read lots of people with Windows cannot even get it to run.I'm sorry that it doesn't work for you. But you have to understand that FlightGear is a community project. There's no company behind it that takes your money and delivers a perfect simulator. It's rather dozens of flight simulation enthusiasts who build their own simulator and are so nice to share their work. Now, while many Linux users are smart enough to step in and fix what doesn't work for them and their OS, MICROS~1 Windows users seem to be more comfortable with whining, biting and scratching. There is next to *no* contribution from Windows users! The few developers who work on the Windows version do a great job. I'm sure they run in none of the bugs that are reported. Fixing bugs that you can't reproduce is extremely difficult. If more Windows users would help, FlightGear would work better under Windows. Most developers use some sort of Unix and can't be bothered to use a crap OS, just to make people happy who lack basic social skills (and can't even get one single sentence right). To make long things short: I suggest to stay with your "pirated" version of MSFS.

I downloaded flightgear last week and installed it on WinXP sp2.Only one little teasing problem with my CH USB Yoke and CH USB pedals, but with a little bit of searching got it all to work.Yoke and pedals.Search the forums and also maybe read the flightgear mailing lists, there are many interesting topics. They may not exactly discuss your specific problem but they may point you in the right direction.Jack
