trying to load FLightgear

Featured Replies

first of all, congratulations for the project.I'm a total newbie in FG, but a few years ago used quite a lot of MSFS v95. Since last year I became 100% software legit, and just came across FG. Looks pretty nice. The thing is that I'm not being able to make it work. It loads only the panel but no exterior views at all.I'm using an athlon XP 2400+ with built in sound and video card (it's an Acer aspire 1350); using windows xp. Can anyone help? Thanks.nuno gouveia, from portugal

Thanks, but...It didn't work. Apparently --airport in not an option in my system (I get a sort of pop-up saying thta not a valid option and listing the available options).Another thing, I tried to load this in another computer running win2K and got almost that same result :-( the difference was:I got to see the airplanes as I chose them int the first window. In my computer I had'nt ssen them...I'll still try other initial setups but am loosing hope anyway.nuno

With what options are you trying to run Flightgear?Could you list them here? The options are listed in the fgrun.exe Flightgear Launcher Wizard Window.

I have the same problem. The panel can appear, but the exterior is all white. Other than that the plane seems to be functioning.I have a compaq Presario with an Athlon XP 3000+ processor with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP Video card. Windows XP.Could it be that Flight Gear does not work with Athlon Processors?

I used severall combinations of options, according to different criteria: either minimizing processor work (smallest resolution, most graphic options disabled, etc) or according to other answers given in this forum to other users, or just gessing (maybe it's this...). Anyway, I don't get to see the airplanes in the airplane selection window in the first place.Could it be that the compiled version for windows is corrupted in Fgear server?thanks for any additional help.nuno

It would be very helpfull if you post the options which were used to start flightgear. That's why i asked for them.>Anyway, I don't get to see the airplanes in the airplane>selection window in the first place. It could be a problem with your OpenGL videocard drivers.

From the wizard I haveC:FlightGearbinWin32fgfs.exe--fg-root=C:FlightGeardata--fg-scenery=C:FlightGeardataScenery;C:FlightGearScenery--airport-id=KSFO--aircraft=p51d--control=mouse--enable-game-mode--disable-random-objects--enable-horizon-effect--disable-ai-models--geometry=1024x768I do get the warningWARNING: Legacy engine definition in YASim configuration file. Please fix.I don't think it is the display adapter because the Panel shows up fine whenever, I activate it. There mightbe some problem in loading the exterior scenery.

I did try a lot of different option combinations, it wasn't clearly the problem. But I just got a brekthrough (I got to see the airplanes and to make Fgerar work) by switching of all hardware acceleration in the video card. However, Fgear ran to slow and only with very few options. So, apparently there's a compatibility problem between these onboard video cards and Fgear. What should I try next? Any ideas...?Thanksnuno

> by switching of all hardware acceleration in the video card.> However, Fgear ran to slow and only with very few options.Well, there's a reason why it's called "acceleration". :-)> So, apparently there's a compatibility problem between these onboard video cards and Fgear.FlightGear doesn't have a problem with your video card. It doesn't care about it. It talks to the OpenGL driver in a standardized "language". It's probably the driver that has problems with OpenGL.> What should I try next? Any ideas...?Try upgrading your graphics card drivers from the manufacturer's site.m.

The problem is that I had updated the video card drivers las week... :-(Is this a dead end then?thanks againnuno

>WARNING: Legacy engine definition in YASim configuration file.>Please fix.I think this is the Flight Dynamic File's problem. Try loading an aircraft that runs on jsbsim.

>The problem is that I had updated the video card drivers las>week... :-(>Is this a dead end then? Not necessarily. The last video card driver is typically working better than older ones. But sometimes new drivers are crap (e.g. last two nVidia drivers for Linux :-). Drivers do normally support MICROS~1's DirectX and OpenGL. But because MICROS~1 has the biggest market share in the home computer sector and most 3D computer games use DirectX, graphics cards manufacturers do usually pay more attention to DirectX support and may have bad OpenGL support. I would search the net and the manufacturer's site for info on this card. Maybe you get some hints there. You can't be the only one who uses OpenGL on this card.

> > Is this a dead end then?>> Not necessarily. The last video card driver is typically working better [...]Do other 3D applications work on this system with this driver? Other OpenGL applications? Or is it only fgfs?
