Upgrade problem

Featured Replies

Hi,just had a new AMD XP2000+/Soltek SL-75DRV5 mobo and one 512mb stick of DDR ram fitted together with a GF4 TI4400. It was a disaster. It would'nt run more than 15mins, without going into a loop of shutting down and restarting. After numerous visits back to the shop where he's blamed almost every other component, I am now going thro' an elimination process where he has stripped most of the stuff out, then I have to try it for a few days, then he puts a bit more back in. Up to now, no lockups. However, I noticed that when it was first upgraded the RAM had a metal coat, but now he has changed it to what I call conventional RAM. So,if any of you guys out there who know far more about these matters than me could advise me before I go mouthing off at the shop, would I be right in thinking he put the wrong type of memory(RAMBUS)in, and would it cause all these lockups.Any advice would be much appreciated.Regards,Russell Blagg.

If the wrong Ram was inserted in your computer, it probably would not run at all plus you may have some smoke and fire. What kind of ventilation fans do you have on your case? Visit www.amd.com for guidance. Also what size power supply do you have, I would recommend 350w minimum.Visit http://www.soltekusa.com/product/showprodu...ctid=1041105317

Thanks for the reply,I did query the psu with the guy and he insisted that 300w was ample.I have 3 fans, one each on the psu, case and graphic card. It's just that I saw an article in a mag. which said RAMBUS was recognised by the metal heatsink which the first stick he put in had, but the one he's put in now does'nt.Regards,Russell.

Hmm :-lol
