DXTBmp file formats??

Featured Replies

Hi AllI read the help file in DXTBmp regarding the different file formats.I understand most of it but I would like to know what you long time painters/re-painters use.Do you use different formats for different jobs? Are there "real world" advantages of some formats over others? For simple re-paints is 565 a good choice or DXT1?ThanksFaxCap

Hi,I use DXT3 and 32 bit 888.The pros and cons are as follows.DXT3, smaller filesize, quicker texture loading in the sim, lower quality32 bit 888, Large filesize, slow texture loading in the sim, high quality. So basically if you want a high quality texture use 32 bit, if you want a quickloading texture, possible for AI, use DXT3Dan.

Thanks for the reply.I notice when I do the save to 888 the colors seem to be highly modified. When I re-open the texture later and send it to the editor there seemsto have been much "shading" added. Is this normal?ThanksFaxCap

Hi,I would suggest you keep an unconverted file always for re-editing.The textures can get pretty "mashed" if you keep converting them, then unconverting them, then reconverting them.Dan.
