February 25, 200521 yr I just can not get a nice clear/sharp finish in my paintings just like painting from PSS (for example). I don't know what's happening... I don't know if it's matter the quality of painting programs (I use PSP 9.01), the 24/32 bit convesion program (I use DXTBmp), some tips I sould know or some tricky steps I'm missing... I really don't know what's happening and it's making me scratch my head very hard. I've been reading and digging in every source I know so far with no success at all.I'm sending 2 samples to illustrate my point. One is the PSS original painting and the other (of course) is "MY" painting. When I'm painting everything looks shinny and perfect. When make the conversion and see the result in the FS, my paintings don't have this clear/sharp finish (like the sample I'm sending)... all the details look foggy... dirty... and, of course, I would like desperately to correct and improve these annoying details. If anybody has a clue, guide, suggestion, method or secrect that would like to share with me I will highly appreciate it.Thanks in advance for any help.
February 25, 200521 yr Author here's the the other sample. I had to do it in 2 sections because of the limitation uploading files.
February 25, 200521 yr Hey edrosario :)Your first image isn't working for some reason, would be helpful to see it. Is the second picture the original PSS livery or your one? I'm not sure what the first image was but a comparision would be good between both paint schemes. Are you converting from an already made paint scheme bmp, modifying it then converting it back? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 26, 200521 yr Author Thank you very much Morgan for your reply and excuse my inexperience in the forum... I should have uploaded the images this way.Going right to the point, the Frontier one is an original livery from PSS and the Northwest is mine. Here you can appreciate what I was taking about... see the details in the Frontier image?... nice, sharp, clean. Take a look at the door, windows, letters, etc.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/108057.jpgNow, compare it with my repaint... it looks foggy, dirty... it does not have this clear/sharp finish I would like to get. On the paintkit everything looks so nice but after completing the conversion process this is the result I get...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/108056.jpgI'm working directly on the PSS Paintkit... so it's not a degrading image because of reworks. As I said before, I've been reading and searching some tutorials and repainting techniques trying to get some light in this sense but nothing. I really would like to find the key to my enigma. I hope you can help me with this. Thanks again Morgan... God bless you.
February 26, 200521 yr edrosario,I had the same problem as you and I also use DXTBMP. I found that saving my texture files without mipmaps kept my textures from altering color and getting that blurry look. Uncheck the Mipmap "include when saving" option box located under the Alpha channel preview window. BMBanister
February 26, 200521 yr Author Hi BMBanister! Thanks so much for your suggestion. I will try that right now and let's see the result I get. But if it works for you it should work for me too. Thanks again.
February 27, 200521 yr Hey edrosario :)Sorry for the late reply, I would also put the blame on mip maps. Remove those pesky things and see how she looks.. let us know the result :9 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 28, 200521 yr Author I'm sorry guys for my silence... I was out of the town for the weekend.Finally!!... BINGO!!! Obviously the whole problem was the mip maps. The image is 100% better.Thank you very much guys for your support.God bless you all!
