August 17, 200520 yr Hallo friends -painters.Today I had to send this e-mail to a fellow-painter.quote.....Hello Mr X, In the LIB found "your" repaint of the "Plane" from "Mr Original Publisher" I like this repaint for it`s accuracy, the small..................... . I think you know what I am going to say now , I like this details because I made them MYSELF. Making repaints is very nice work to do and publishing them is OK , but a real genuine repaint is ONLY based on the original livery. All the work has to be done by the repainter HIMSELF. What you did is , copying MY WORK ( partially) and publish it as YOUR repaint. That`s no repainting , that`s PLAGIARISM. You could at least have stated in your readme.txt you used my repaint to enhance "yours". I hope you can understand my reaction and be sure , I am not real angry with you , I would like to help you to make your repaints betterincluding all the tricks with the alpha layers. BUT please do not steel ever again. Best regards Leen de Jager. P.s. A copy of this e-mail will be placed on the repainters-forum at AVSIM without giving names and the stolen details of the plane , the name of it`s original maker and your name.I only give this warning ONCE.A second time I`ll publish it including all names.------end of quoteUsing someone-elses repaint for collecting ideas and give your version of his interpretation is OK.Simply cut and paste goes to far. Is`nt it?RegardsLeen de Jager
August 17, 200520 yr Hey Leen :)I've never had anyone "borrow" my work as yet, probably because I don't paint majorly popular aircraft. However I understand where you're coming from.. it would have been nice for the person to at least email you asking if they could use it. I regularly look at the bmps of quality repaints just to try and see how they've done certain things, I find its very useful to develop new techniques.. wouldn't ever try and use their textures thought :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
