Connie L049 Air France...modified version..comments & h...

Hi all,Total newbie here, in all areas of this! I've only tinkered rarely with any flight sims, let alone tried to paint an FS model. My interest has been mainly one plane for the last 15 years. The L049 Connie that still resides about 30 minutes away from me at Greenwood Lake Airport (6N1) in West Milford, NJ. I've had a crush on her for years and created a website deidicated to her back in 2005. It's normally found at:http://www.javelinamx.com/N9412H(Recent host troubles may lock you out at the moment...working to resolve them as I type this!)Anyway...the plane started out with Air France as F-BAZA and then came home to TWA as N9412H. Of the four L049s AF had, F-BAZA is their first, and is the only survivor (the rest were chopped in the 1960s).As I was poking around the web recently, I discovered that FSDZigns had a freeware L049 for FS2004...so I downloaded it and ordered both FS2004 and a CH Flight Yoke (dove in head first!). I then discovered Wayne Tudor's repaint for *my* plane's sister, F-BAZB. Naturally, downloaded that, too. Then, I just had to have it all...I wanted to modify the BAZB to become the BAZA. So I downloaded Abacus' FSRepaint. And over the last two nights, I went to work learning the program a bit and generally just abusing Wayne's paintjob to see how much I could change before I screwed it all up.In addition to altering the registry, I've also added and/or corrected details here and there to match my own research materials as best as I can. Thus far, I have what you see in these photos-(Fear not- I asked for and got Wayne's permission to alter and share it)image13soo9.jpgBy jwramc at 2007-07-17image1sty4.jpgBy jwramc at 2007-07-17I've tweaked the colors on all the pegasus logos, and added more of them to the engine cowlings. I've added the construction number on the portside nose and Constellation logos ahead of each wing. Wing registry markings have lost there white borders and are now black. Side registries are also now black. The black anti-glare 'V' on the nose is gone, replaced by a blue and off-white 'W'. The 'AIR FRANCE' text is squashed down a bit, too. Finally, I've added some soot to the engines to simulate a bit of prior usage.Overall, I'm ecstatic with the result. It's nearly everything I wanted with the exception of the missing cockpit skylights and dorsal astrodome. My only issue so far: reflectivity seems odd, especially on the sides nearest the cockpit, where it seems strangely bright from certain angles. I don't *think" I messed up the original Alpha files...but suppose it's possible. Comparing the originals, tho, I see nothing obvious.So...anybody feel this thing, when finalized, would be worthy of posting as a download...or is Wayne's original all anybody needs?

Welcome :)Looks great! The over reflective front from certain angles is probably to do with the hard coded shine and not the alpha channel. The only person who can change this is the modeller.. so I wouldn't worry about it :)If you get permission from Wayne to upload, why not.. the more the merrier!

That's one shiny bird! I saw the Breitling owned/sponsored one just last month at the Paris Air Show. I don't really fancy old planes (except when jet powered), but this is some piece nostalgia (Did I spell that correctly?).Anyways, nice edits!

Hi,I downloaded the plane-repaint your repaint is based on and had a look at the alpha`s.Alltough I agree with Morgan , the massif shine can be in the model itself ,I think in this case, this phenomena, on this bird, can be corrected significantly. On the fuselage forward texture the alpha is abolutely much darker than on the other files.Enlightening these parts will be solving the problem almost completely. The darkest grey on the front fuse texture-alpha should be nowhere darker than the darkest grey on the other fuse textures-alphas.The darkest spots on the other alphas shoul be enlightend a little too.We see on the examples a clear defference between the files. This shows on the model too , at the E from Air France the model had much less shine overall.( see second screenshot above)We have to keep in mind to temper the dominating gloss on this plane anyway ,because the original was probably alu-grey sprayed and not a high-shine polished one.RegardsLeen de JagerThe original alpha`s.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175486.jpgAlphas like these are should solve the issue.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175487.jpgSimply enlarge these alphas and give it a try.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to go play now.... :)

OK, I adjusted the alpha to tone things down up front and elsewhere a bit. Seems to have leveled things out quite a bit. I want to adjust a few small details a bit more, then I'll likely try to post it for download tonight.http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9438/071807test1sv3.jpgThanks again to everyone for the aid.
