For those who have CFS 2 and 3

Featured Replies

Ok, I really enjoy CFS2 and FS2k2. I also like IL-2. Those are all pretty hardcore sims, more or less concentrating on flying techniques to do well. From what I've heard, CFS 3 is more of an "arcade" feeling game. I like the aspect that you have to control ground forces and such in a coordinated effort to win a war. So... my question is this: If I'm looking to have a game that is more or less like a Playstation (or other arcade game, more action, less proper flying), does CFS 3 do a nice job of entertaining? I have plenty of flight sims that I can spend hours flying around just to fly, but I'm looking for something more along the lines of "shoot em up". Plus I need something to hold me over till LOMAC is out :)Thanks!

No I haven't, I'll have to check it out. The 3 kids that I watch may love that one too, it may beat just crashing into everything for them :)

I got CFS3 and was duly disappointed in general with it, primarily for some of the arcadish reasons others have noted. But all in all, it is a fun sim if you approach it with the proper attitude. The fact that your attitude needs to be quite different from how MS sold the sim is probably why so many people are screaming for their money back right now. So the short answer from me is yes, if you want to shoot stuff up, get CFS3. But only if you've got a monster machine, and then only if you're willing to do quite a bit of tweaking to get it to run right. On second thought, maybe if you're looking for casual entertainment, it'd be better to wait until they've released the promised patch. Theoretically it's designed to fix most of the performance issues.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Luckily, I do have a monster machine... just finished building it not to long ago. I fly the other flight sims to learn new things and practice flying. But yes, I'm looking for an arcade type game just to putz around and have fun with. Blow stuff up and the likes! I got the Crimson Skies demo, but it seems a bit "too" easy to fly. Anyone know of a CFS3 demo?? I'd really like to see it in action, that's the problem when they don't release demos... Oh well, I'll await a patch and then ask again :)
