A nice find by Peter at Bush Flying Unlimited: PeterR Member since Mar-7-022838 posts Jan-23-03, 04:08 PM (EST) "Files too big for download? Want them on CD?" I just saw that LinuxCD.org offers a download-and-burn-to-CD service. For $6.95 per disc, they'll download whatever URLs you give them and put them on CDR. Pretty neat.http://www.linuxcd.org/made.phpPeter BFU Forums Moderator Bush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure? Come join us!Forums * Web Site * BFU Store * Join!

That should revive the "freeware on CD" argument. A little different twist here though as it's not predefined data.

Not just freeware...Imagine someone struggling with download of Lago's Ultralights, or DF's Cardinal. I can do that in a moment on my high speed office connection, and burn a CD while I stretch my legs. Hardly $7 worth of effort or material. Huge profit potential involved, off of other people's work. Think most freeware authors don't have the time to pursue something like this, but if they extend their service to commercial titles, all bets are off...

Not really. It's a custom CD made to order just for you. It's not as if someone is offering software on CD, they're offering to burn and ship a CD and you decide what's on it.The price is for the service, not the software (as in those "freeware on CD" offers where you get charged for the software).

Except that "the price is for the service" has always been the mantra of those selling the freeware disks :-). In this case it's even better for the customer as they can specify exactly what freeware they want included. I don't much of difference when it comes to the final product. A rose by any other name....Doug
