Dash 8 HSI Course selector Problem.........Maybe......

Recommended Posts

Hi, I did a flight tonight (KACV-KPDX) for the first time in a while. I noticed this problem in the pre-FS9 upgrade of the Dash-8. Anyway, when I started the flight I set the "Course" selector knob to 315 (Rwy Hdg.). OK that was fine, it registered on the HSI as 315. A little later in the flight I reset the course hdg for 344 and I noticed on the HSI a reading of -16? Yes, that's correct -16...It stayed this way until descent and final approach when it changed on the HSI to 92 for some strange reason, even though I had selected a course of 281 for Rwy 28L at KPDX. So, the Loc and GS were captured alright when I pressed APP, but the HSI reading still did not coincide with the hdg 281 I had selected...Now, FYI during the flight I hit "ALT enter" to go to full screen mode. Could changing from Windowed to Full screen mode and back have triggered the problem with the wrong HSI readout? After the flight I went back in and reloaded the flight as I use "Autosave". To my surprise or satisfaction the HSI was reading the correct heading of 281 that I had set on final approach. In any event do you have any ideas as to what might have caused this problem to ocurr in the first place? I have unchecked "gyro drift" in the realism settings in FS9 and I have the registered version of FSUIPC with the "acceleration fix" box checked as I have searched the forum and found that these were reasons for other similar problems with the HSI and course selection in the past. I usually check the forums first for a possible solution before I post, this time with no luck...Regards,Tom Stewart

Hi,Sorry I don't have an answer, I just wanted to let you know that I also see this on the RMI. Doesn't interfere with the ability of the AP or myself to fly the plane but it is odd.Mike

Ah now we're getting somewhere. yes, I was using a presaved plan. So your saying the plans I setup were possibly using an older version of NavData "Airacs". This is possible because I keep on top of Richard's NavData releases.I'll buy that. Thanks for the headsup.Tom Stewart
