Team AVSIM Practice Thread #7

Recommended Posts

Baton is Free at ZSQD with 33 Minute Penalty from forum time post of Baton Free, which should be about 40 minutes after the hour your local time. Yes, Penalties will require Math. I did get 850 Miles Though. Flight test was multi-purpose for me, testing Winds at decsent, Ground Speed in descent, and if you look at your planner, didn't really have a place to divert to. Visibility was about a half mile, so needed to do ILS Approach, and that took a little time as well.It also shows what a Penalty will do and how it will affect us. By Going Only 11 Minutes over, barely an approach, it costs the Team 33 Minutes with tha baton sitting.Learn The Lesson now, so it don't happen during the race folks.Regards,Joehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/106714.jpgJOIN The AVSIM RTW RACE FLIGHT TEAM****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Hmmm, KC. Interesting routing.Guess that we're not being very clear about our destination. There was some talk about flying over the Alaska or the Aleutians to get more practice there. But perhaps the Pacific Islands could use a work out as well. When we get racing, we're just going to have to have people clear about how we intend to fly. While no one can force the pilot to do anything, the pilot surely wants to help the team out...right guys? Last year we handled this informally--with bunches of guys sitting around discussing routings on the web. The other two teams have gotten more formal about this in one way or the other. Perhaps we need a way to make the overall scheme of things clear to the pilot who picks up the baton.Ideas?M.

I think we can do that with a "if you plan to fly a leg thread"and list out our advice. We can start north again from Osaka. Under the current rules the Pacific islands are out of the question.Aleuthans are the only available route across the Pacafic. In fact RCJN-UHPP is mandatory, it's the only possible way to get to the Aleuthans that has any chance at all of working in under 2 hours (and that's with a lot of tailwind and no goarounds at all!).NOTAM: plan all your flights for no more than 90 minutes. That way you have some leeway in case you have bad winds or need to go around. If you can't find a destination for your chosen aircraft that's 90 minutes out, either take a shorter leg or leave the flight to someone else (unless you have the fastest aircraft in the race and there's nowhere else to go at all like Yelizovo (UHPP) which is effectively mandatory).

Baton Free at RJCMhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/106759.jpg6 minute penalty 702.7nm Flight Though.Spotter was Kickin_Chicken.I set up for the VOR Sharo Approach, vis was less than 1/4 Mile. Couldn't see the lights until almost right on the runway. Kickin was on the gorund with weather, and flew some practice approaches to check out terrain. I wasn't on Multi-Player, but we used comm on Teamspeak.Right before Sharo Approach, you thread a needle of two lower peaks say about 5000 Feet, that was pretty fun. Have to manage a lot with this aircraft, but a fun flight was had. I did consider a divert, but made an executive decision, and figured with the speed of my steed, and doing 702.7nm, 6 minutes wouldn't kill me. On Race Day, I would choose exactly one airport closer though. My Orignal estimate had me with 3 minutes or so time reserve with my calculated GS and Winds aloft, flight time was actually 1 minute 31 seconds over, have to post quicker I guess since we go by forum time, and not Duenna Time. See you all tomorrow. Sonar5 Out.Regards,JoeJOIN The AVSIM RTW RACE FLIGHT TEAM****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Good job on that landing! The crazy zero-vis. weather, snow and 5000' mountains made that one for the records! Who's next?!

Hi Joe & KC,You two have come up with an excellent idea. We have been wanting to fly multiplayer for many reasons, including the fun of it all. But multiplayer is sufficiently unstable that it threatens race legs.Hence, the advantage of your idea of the baton-holder flying "offline" while maintaining a TeamSpeak communications link with the online teammates. The teammates could still serve as scout (examining the destination airport for dangerous obstacles and report on the actual FS9 weather conditions) and rabbit (leaping ahead to scan the route for favorable altitude & tailwind conditions). This style of flying with sound-only communication could be termed "flying sonar"... ;-)Of course, it's even more fun to have the baton-holder online as well. Is it worth the risk?M.
