#6 RTW Race Thread #6

Paul's moved off in the opposite direction, towards East Timor.Either he intends to set us back by about 20 hours or he's dropped his claim.

Paul,To be sure, there are no reservations. If you did post first, then the Baton is yours. But the record has both of you posting at 6:02 EST. (Recall that neither of you two could see the other one posting simultaneously.)My suggestion is for Paul to speedily get in about two hours and then attempt to hand off to Francisco as clearly as possible.Would that work for you Francisco? Can you fly in a couple of hours--strictly enforced? We do want to get a cooperative solution here. We are on the same team.Mike

This is the way i see it:I know there are no reservations, but we are told to be as ready as possible within 10 minutes before the baton carrier lands so that we don't waste time. I was there... Our friend johanvw was too... Paul wasn't. Jerome vacated the runway, i lined up, he told me he had stopped and i started to roll as i posted the message. Then Paul appeared on the other side of the runway. Then i saw this thread of messages. You can see i'm ahead on the air... For me it's ok if i don't get the baton, but i cannot fly at 0100Z. I will make the flight anyway just for fun. Who has the baton it's up to you.BTW, Paul's right... we're not making it to OERM in 2 hours... We are getting major headwinds so we'll have to be short of what we plannedRegardsFrancisco Leit

I been following the progress of the journey and would like to participate. There seems to be a quite a rush to grab the baton. It would be nice if those who have flown a leg would allow someone new to join in. I've never flown VATSIM. Hopefully that is not a disqualifier. Can someone catch me up on the latest proposed routing so I can put myself in standby position to help the effort.Thanks.Jeff Williams (KDCA)

I'm escorting Francisco for a while.W're also followed by:1. Callsign N911KZ- Paul Meyer C092. Callsign BAW318- Terry Beddoes EGGTDon't know what is happening here, but Francisco wanted this flight for almost 2 hours ago. At that time nobody, except myself, wanted this flight, untill Francisco departed.Somebody may have a solution?Regards Johan

Francisco, Paul, and Johan.Ah, a dim light appears in my small brain. Why not SHARE the flight. You both want to fly at this time. It should be fun doing this together on VATSIM. Let's double our pleasure.(Maybe Johan can critique your airmanship :-hah)And we'll enter the flight as completed by our new team: PFFM.En route, you can figure out how to announce to the next pilot about when to proceed. (You can flip a coin to see who lands first. But you jointly share the flight. And then have a drink together at the landing site.OK EVERYONE?M.

I was looking at the proposed route, and since Matt has declared Iraq and Afghanistan are off limits due to real-world no-fly zones. Are Ethiopia and Washington DC also off-limits as well due to real world no-fly zones? The ethiopia one doesn't appear to affect us. but it looks like our last leg into BOS might go thru the washington NFZ.The Washington NFZ is 15nm centered on the DCA VOR I believe with a 30 nm ADIZ surround the NFZ.Cheers :)Woodreau - I get off work in a few minutes. and 30 mins later I might home, so if a leg is avail I would be avail to fly.

Hi I'm also just escorting. I have been following the race on and off during european daytime at work and thought I'd go to SEEB just to meet you. I thought I'd accompany the flight for a while and am trying to keep up.I normally fly Airbus with British Airways Virtual so the King Air takes some getting used to.Haven't been to the Gulf since I was in the Royal Navy. Seems like the guys are going back to finish what we started last time.Best Wishes to AVSIMTerry Beddoes

I do like wise solutions!!To be honest: I will leave the flight within 15 minutes or so.It's about 01.00 am local time and my bed is calling......Yup: I'll take a beer as well!!Johan

Normally it works out alright. This is the first time there are several people waiting at the same time.Normally there's only one person (or two at most) online when the flight ends so there is no question who will take it.This time, 2 people posted they were taking the flight at the exact same moment which led to confusion. Given the number of flights so far, it's almost miraculous it hasn't happened before. We've flown the first 2 days all offline, so not being on VATSIM is no problem.Might be a nice incentive to get started though.

Thanks for your support Terry!!RegardsJohan

If it's that small we can just steer around it no problem. Just tune the VOR and fly a 15nm DME arc around it until we're back on track.Takes only a few minutes.

This works for me... no problemActually Paul is speeding up (what the heck are you flying?) and he's passed me already... but i'll try to keep up...major headwinds continue to hassle us (60Kts) so in about 30 min time we have to decide where to land, because i do'nt believe OERM will be the site... in the middle of the desert maybe ?RegardsFrancisco Leit

I've been told that we need another reminder/clarification of the rules. Here goes:No reserving flights. For example, someone tried to say "I want the next leg" on this current leg that has been flown. Metro752 disregarded this post and claimed the baton before the poster who wanted the leg claimed it. The baton is his. Also, you guys are totally misconstruing the rule about responding to the original post. I don't care whose post you respond to, just be sure and keep all relevant posts in this thread. That's all I was saying.Congrats on your continued fabulous progress. This is real exciting. Thanks for participating!
