You CAN taxi with only 1 engine!

Featured Replies

It is reported at the Dash8 forum at (http://hangar.fsbaltic.net/dash8/)that it is possible to taxi with only 1 engine with the Dash8-300 by Oleksiy Frolov. It has been claimed that this is not possible in FS2002. Is this a "breakthrough'?Barry

It was always possilbe, given that that particular engine had enough power, but FS2002's taxi phsysics are AWFUL! The most noted problem is with 'sticky wheels'; where FS aircaft have too much wheel friction, and therefore require too much power to taxi, and to stay moving. FS doesn't really model the physics associated with wheels at all. When attempting to turn with differential thrust, you'll find that the aircraft behaves much like it's in the air, and will yaw suddenly, and irreversibly to the opposite side of the powered-up engine.

You should give it a try with Frolov's Dash 8 Version 1.004, you will find that this aircraft has plenty of power for taxiing on one engine even in the ground fine (beta) range, and it does not have a sudden or excessive yaw into the dead engine. It is completely controllable, and realistic, right down to the modeling of prop sounds as the blades move into a flatter pitch angle. This is one addon aircraft for FS2002 that is not only fun to fly, it is also great fun to taxi!
