September 3, 200619 yr Anybody else play around in "outer space" yet? I slewed my beaver to about 1.5 million feet and the whole experience was pretty interesting.Obviously I had no control and the engine stopped and I began plummetting back toward earth. Interestingly though I reached crazy high speeds (not sure just how fast) and then "hit" the atmosphere. My plane kept bouncing off the earth around 400,000 feet. (although I never officially crashed or overstressed the aircraft...)Even if I slewed it into a perfect dive, the atmosphere would begin ragdolling my aircraft all over the place. I never could get it back to earth without slewing it back down. So, it seems perhaps the physics or flight modeling of space could be there and yield intereting addons. Obviously a beaver dosnt quite "fly" in space, but it would be cool to see if realistic space craft and perhaps even scenery could be created. With multiplayer perhaps whole shuttle/spaceflight missions could be created and flown. "Space" planes also seem easily possible now. FSX could be opening up a whole new realm...Try it out and see what you think. Brew
September 4, 200619 yr In the FSX demo I saw the same problem. The aircraft fell correctly at the beginning but after reaching a particular height (it may well have been 400,000 feet which is nearly 100 miles) the aircraft started to bounce up and down and it never reached the surface. This appears to be a serious bug. I hope it's fixed as it will mean realistic atmospheric re-entries (e.g. with the space shuttle) will be impossible. Best regards, Chris
September 4, 200619 yr Maybe not a bug. I took the CRJ up, and when I took it out of slew mode my descent was vertical. In the space shuttle the re-entry speeds are something like 18000 mph parallel to the horizon, so the relationship to the atmosphere is completely different.http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/spacecraft/q0164.shtmlMike.
