Vista Aero and FS2004 - Ouch!

Recommended Posts

Just installed FS2004 on a new PC (Q6600 @ 3.4GHz, 8800GTS, with Vista Home Premium). Full screen mode was fine, but switching to windows mode was a disaster. As soon as I changed the direction of view the screen froze with the instrument panel still occupying the bottom half of the screen. I tried all the usual reinstall, latest NVidia drivers things without success - then I dimly remembered someone here saying Vista Aero gave him a problem. I removed it and all now runs fine. I don't recall seeing any warning from MS about this incompatibility - or is it just a feature of my machine setup? For what it's worth, FS2004 now runs out of the box at 300+ fps during cruise in window mode, 60fps in full screen (presume this is locked by my TFT screen refresh rate?). Even FSX is just about usable :)--Bryn
