Is there a limit to addon aircraft?

Featured Replies

HiI'm new to FS2004, but I've been adding on quite a lot of addon aircraft and is wondering if there is a limit or can you add indefinitely? Also does the more you have impact on the performance of fs2004 ie. slows it down etc? Many thanks

"Is there a limit to addon aircraft?"Not that I'm aware of, but having a LOT (ie 100's) of ai aircraft certainly slows down loading, I'd guess the same would be true for flyable aircraft. I'd suggest moving aircraft you're not using regularly into a backup folder, then it'll be easy just to copy them back to the Aircraft folder when you want them.

There's a small utility that can render AI models invisible when loading them. This shortens FS loading times and prevents from scrolling through a long list of planes when you want to select one.Sorry I can't provide a link since I don't remember where exactly I downloaded that tool from. Perhaps someone else would...

It is called bbqhideai.zip and is available in the library here.It was written by Alan WL Chan.

I have tons of planes and if I kept them all in one Aircraft folder the load-time would be huge.So I've split them all up into folders named:Aircraft (Piston)Aircraft (Turboprop)Aircraft (Jets)Aircraft (Helicopter)When the time comes to fly I just rename the relevant folder to "Aircraft" and off we go :)
