Perfection achieved?!

Recommended Posts

Since the Y**** server has started being provided I continue to be blown away-however like others there are inconsistant resolutions and eventual blurry's.I started thinking-I want the highest resolution tiles possible-why download the lower res tiles? So I changed the proxy.ini to both max/min of 17....I then loaded my area of the world with the highest detail level. It took all night to load....I woke up this morning-took off, and was treated to high res textures everywhere (look extending to the distance-sharp the whole way!)and a huge geographic area in this detail. Most importantly-the scenery didn't blur as I flew over it!Fps took a hit but still above 15 on my 4 year old rig.Yes the download times are long-but the scenery is permanent. I'll try a few more experiments but I am real excited about this. To do it right I need to clear the cache (there may be some low texture resolutions still there from past fights mixing in). I will be downloading all of San Diego tonight while I sleep...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgReal shot of my house from airplane:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173990.jpgThe y****'s version:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173991.jpgOther shots of Michigan-the Y**** does a great job of colors-but the textures stayed sharp and clear like this-and look how sharp they look extending in the distance:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173993.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173995.jpg

could you send a link of your proxyuser.ini file? thanks. I just need to get the beta5 working. My textures only load really blurry block and then stop.I might just try your high resolution tactic. sounds cool and makes sense.

Giving it a shot right now :-) I wish there was a way to import a flight plan into TP and then leave it loading the textures overnight, as if virtually flying the route. I considered leaving my plane on AP to fly a to-be-flown route overnight but I'm not sure how that would work out.Andrew

thanks for the ini file. I got it in my mailbox.ya I think cache packs would be cool if somehow we could download either areas we fly or routes and just leave it on nightly and be able to fly them anytime. It would be worth the wait I think to have great looking ground for miles.we could even have a system where users are assigned different areas for cacheing and then upload them to filesharing sites or what not and then take a big load off of google yahoo or wherever.just throwing out some ideas. dont know how practicle

Thnaks for your help, mate - will let you know how it looks once the downloading is done ... which could be a while ;-)Sat image providers need to get onto this - if they can charge $400 for an enterprise solution, they could easily charge a $100 or $200 a year for guaranteed high speed access for sim users. They could revoloutionise simming and make some good money at the same time, not to mention the PR benefits of millions of screenshots of their product on the net.Andrew

okay left it running all night and got the same results as before. its just loading low res high altitude images.Im thinking it has to do with the cache folder not being created. But I am not sure.I wouldnt pay 100 dollars a year for something like this.

Hi Geof,Wish I could say it worked for me but, sadly, it didn't. I ended up with this and a cryptic warning:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/174028.jpgPerhaps I missed something. I altered the ProxyUser.ini file fom min_level=9, max_level=17 to min_level=17, max_level=17. I'm wondering whether I should also have commented out the level_mapping=9,10,11,12,14,14,15,16,17 or changed all the values to 17?There is a down side to all this unfortunately. All level 17 bitmaps now are 683 KB in size and this soon mounts up. I checked the relevant TEXTURE folder for the area I was flying after the loading phase had completed (not sure how long this took, but it certainly wasn't an overnight job - I went to have my lunch and on returning, about an hour later, it had completed) and it contained 5781 objects (3.76GB!).Mike

Interesting error!I haven't had a chance to try it again yet, but yes it will make for big files . I don't plan to do it for the whole world-but I sure appreciate having the area I live in done in this detail and a few other areas I enjoy flying. A loss of blurries is a bonus.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg
