Weird or strange installation problem (FS2004)

Recommended Posts

Hello,Have a friend who post this in a other forum .. and so far nobody or Microsoft able to help ....

One of the first products on my system some five years ago was FS9. Since then it has accumulated many Mods and Addons, many purchased. In this instance an Addon would not validate to complete installation. The non-validation led to file loading problems with FS9. Following like problems with CFS3 which were corrected via reinstallation with no data loss, a similar leap of faith was taken with FS9.NOT SO EASY...Each time I have attempt to reinstall the program, having deleted it per start menu instructions, it fails to find adequate space. The new drive has 700gb available. Yet if I attempt install in Normal Mode, Selective Mode or Safe Mode, whether I clean away all temp. files, run SpyBot, Ad Aware, AVG to capture any offending virus, or remove any related FS9 document folder from the system drive and host drive, the Setup states that it requires 3253Mb for installation and that only 2047Mb are available for custom install. A redirect to another drive returns with the same response.I was surprised that no one responded to my request for help. I now understand. The probelm of the program not installing is not easy to resolve. For example I have XP SP2 supported by 3Gb of DRAM. The problem is that FS9 was written for a dyanamic memory ceiling of 2Gb or 2048Mb. It appears that the installer is becoming confused by dynamic memory reading taken initially, instead of hard memory on the drive, namely 700Gb.I am now at "level 2" of technical specialists at Microsoft who are as yet unable to establish a solution to achieve reinstallation of the program.
Very strange .. any taker ?Nota: I suggested him to remove some memory stick for proceed install .. but this man affraid of working in the PC bowel :)Regards.bye.gif

How much memory did he have when he originally installed FS9?It does seem very odd, that from reading that post he did have FS9 installed at one stage .What major upgrades has he done since the original install ?Mark

hmmm...removing a ram might help.....or if that doesnt help too...it has to be a corrupt file in the disk that is getting in the way...use kaspersky antivirus and do a full scan....another guess of mine is that the hard drive is having a bad sector.......if the problem continues....backup all important documents and programs....PARTITION AND REFORMAT the hard drive....have a seperate partition for fs9.....about 60-100 GB should do if u download alot of addons....its not a software problem...its a hardware problem..that much i know....good luck :)AniL RekhraJ

Hello,Thank's for the answers ..And yes he have installed FS9 on the same system before.Cause a error he uninstalled CFS and FS2004.He was able to reinstall CFS but no FS2004 due to the problem described in the first post.Actually he received a answer from the Microsoft help desk .. lol ...

The drones ran out of questions on their list. After fifteen days as Microsoft Games support, and purportedly up to Level II who spent another four days to unravel my re-installation problem, he conceded that all the tricks on his list of magic was thwarted. It is not a game problem, he stated. Not an installer problem. It is an operating system problem....Call the Windows people....I did. While they saw my incident report and recognized it involved another Microsoft product, my windows registration had the magic three letters OEM, which meant it was installed by license by a third party. Talk to them, go to a website or pay us $39. That is more than FS9 cost originally, but less than all the Mods and Addons applied. Having such faith in MS, I will talk to the "them" now who originally installed XP for assistance. News will be made once available.

What if the installer is having trouble with not enough virtual memory for the install? Could be this isn't a HDD space issue at all, but rather not enough VM for the installer to run and decompress all those big cab files.I'd check that WinXP's virtual memory settings are set to let XP manage the settings automatically, at least during the install.Bob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I don't have an answer, but many people , including myself have successfully installed FS9 on systems with less than 2gb memory.I agree with Bob, check your virtual memory settings and let Windows manage the page file.
