April 19, 200323 yr Hi guysI am thinking about buying a powerful laptop soon with built-in 3D accelerator. However, I have one concern:Am I right in saying that if I get a laptop now with an ATi Mobility 9000 chip that I won't be able to play FS2004 when it is out? I am guessing this because the 9000 is a Direct X 8.1 chip and I presume I will need one of the Direct X 9 chips?Wisdom please!!Steve
April 19, 200323 yr Not necessarily true. MS indicates you will need to have directx9 installed but never said your and many other users would have to have a new graphics card. If you have installed directx9.0a, does your present card pass the directx9 tests? Bill Sieffert
April 19, 200323 yr This isnt true,I can say that for sure. Directx9 provides a means for the new graphics cards to use new techniques, but Directx 9 is just a follow on from 8.1 etc,so you can install DX9 or 9A right now and it will work perfectly, you just wont avail of some of the features which are possible when using a new card and Dxt9. So in short, dont worry bout it. My question would be why you would want a laptop? They tend to be more expensive and yet less suitable for FS??RegardsJohn http://www.bavirtual.co.ukP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
April 19, 200323 yr Thanks guys for your replies. The reason I would want a laptop is because I would also use it as a mobile recording studio platform etc. In any case, it might be that I won't be buying one until the Mobility 9600 is out, which is built for ALL the DX9 features. So, from your replies, does this mean that FS2004 won't be using DX9 features?
April 20, 200323 yr It's highly doubtful what they will,I mean the first Direct x 9 graphics cards only came out 2 months ago. And they certainly arent stating it in the features...RegardsJohn Mc Avinuehttp://www.bavirtual.co.ukP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
