Addons outside of FS9 folder

Recommended Posts

I am waiting for my new rig to be finished - hopefully tonight - and I wanted to clear something up:my FS9 is on a separate HD - 7200rpm, not alas a 10000rpm Raptor - and I was wondering if there would be any advantage or disadvantage in installing FS Global, FE, GE Pro etc, in separate folders on the HD outside of FS9.ThanksNicholas

Nicholas,I don't have the specific sceneries which you quote but I do have some other specially selected very large ones on a second physical HD. As far as frame rates are concerned I notice no differences at all. In my opinion the only real advantage is when e.g. defragmenting and/or backing up.My FS9 HD (partition) inwhich all new addons are installed and my physical second HD (partition) can now be defragmented separately. In most cases it's now no longer necessary to defragment my second HD e.g. because nothing on it has changed since I defragmented it last time. The same applies when backing up. I now only need to backup the FS9 HD (patition) because on the second physical HD nothing has changed, meaning that the existing backup is still valid.Hope this helpsHans
