April 28, 200323 yr HI!I read somewhere that the Boeing BBJ and NG uses CFM 56 engines.I know that the Airbus uses the CFM 56, but is this the exactly same engine type, or is it different by aircraft type?RegardsBj
April 28, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi BjornThe Engine core is the same (hence the CFM56 designation) but the dash numbers for the Airbus and the Boeing are different. The 737 uses a CFM56-22B or similar depending on engine thrust rating while the Airbus A319/A320's I work are CFM56-5a1, 5a3 or 5a5 depending on model and thrust requirements. Major difference I could see (not having worked on the 737 alot) are the gearbox and accessory drives.
