VRS F-18 Panel in a Non VRS Plane?

Has anyone had any success trying to use the VRS F-18 panel in a non-VRS F-18? I have a friend who wants to do just that and has had no success. I know that they say it can't be done and not to ask VRS for any help doing it. Thanks, regards, Bob.
