Saving repaints in the Aircraft.cfg file

Recommended Posts

HELP!!!, I have tried several times to save repaints in FSX, every time I try to save them after cutting or copying them into the aircraft.cfg file I get the following: "Word (or notepad) cannot save or create this file, Make sure that the disk you want to save to is not full (it isn't), write protected (don't know), or damaged (not damaged). Any suggestions?? I guess I need to know how to check if my disk is write protected and how to change it, I have VISTA 64.Thank you for your help.

Hi Steve,Your problem is not with your disk. It is, in fact, a Vista User Account Control classic. A lot of people will recommend you disable UAC altogether, but I don't since the solution to the file save problem is faily simple. Before you edit your aircraft.cfg file right click on its icon and select Properties from the menu. Hit the Security tab and the Edit button to edit the access permissions list. Find your username and then hit the Full control checkbox. When you hit the OK button your file will now be available to you to do with as you please. This technique works for folders as well, but the real solution to the UAC problem is simply to install your applications in some location other than C:\Program Files. Vista is very protective of this folder, but cares little about what you do in your own folders.Good luck, and welcome to AVSIM.
