Should I upgrade the Video Card or CPU?

Featured Replies

Ok so on FSX, I like EVERYTHING high, not just ultra settings, but everything maxed out. I like reality. Anyway, everything MAXED out runs great in scenic areas, but the second I go into LAX or JFK, it lags quite a bit. My specs are:XFX 9800GTX+ 512mb AMD Q9550 2.2ghz (quad, for my multitasking)8gb's of memory(4-2gbs)vista home prem. 64bit and etc. Now, I here this game likes a good cpu, and doesnt take advantage of SLI?So with that SAID, my question is, should I upgrade the CPU? or GPU?. I can spend about 200 dollars, and that's it.What do you guys suggest? I'd like a smooth FPS when flying through Los Angeles or New York, with settings maxed out. Thanks guys, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I know I'm running the risk of Phantoms wrath, but I can understand that you're posting here since you want your computer to specifically run FSX, and the hardware forum is broken up into different computer components. You definitely will not see any improvement with a new video card unless you upgrade that cpu first. Don't expect to see good framerates at LAX and JFK even with an upgrade unless you lower the sliders.

try to O/C the 9559 to 3.0 GHz. Should make a big difference. Stable O/C that is. See tom's hardware etc. for how-tos.

For sure the CPU, that's quite a good graphics card you have there and with a decent CPU will give you great performance. Don't forget all the tweaks etc that can be done to make things run better. Do a search, there's loads of them
