Lazy FS9

Hello, I'm a new member on this forum, but have been using Avsim for over 6 years. Just want to start with a Thank You.However my simming experience has been tarnished lately with a really annoying habit my PC has gotten into. When I am flying along at high speed with sim rate at 2x or above(most of the time, since I mainly fly heavies), FS doesn't load the scenery as I fly over it, the textures fail to load when I switch to exterior views, and the ATC idiots fall asleep (fail to hand me off etc). My computer is not what you'd call powerful (1Gb RAM, P4 3.2, ge4000 128Mb) but has usually been able to cope, and I still get over 15fps usually. Also it gets worse if I watch DVDs or surf the net (10+ hour flights require some IFE :( ), and all this only really started when I got my FS PC connected to the internet. It only refreshes itself when I pause and let it recuperate at 1x speed, and using the POSKY 747v4 at the 9D Kai Tak (a favourite haunt of mine), with AI at 50% and my sliders at 65% on average, it takes about 10mins to load up. This is quite irritating as all that has changed is my internet connection.I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I know that you simmers are a clever bunch and any help would be much appreciated.

Had enough of lurking eh! :( Welcome You say all these problems arose after you had an internet connection .Are you running any kind of Anti virus ?If so it may be worth doing a search as you will find plenty of posts about FS9 and Antivirus software Mark

Oh dear!I hope you didnt pay too much for it , because you are not going to like what you read :( I would start off by seeing if you can exclude FS9 from being scanned by your AV and see if that helps Mark

I've stumbled across some threads, but then others replied to the posts defending Symantec and Norton, not very useful stuff.BTW Before my Net connection my AV was running nonstop without problems :( Ill try the exclude, see what happensAlso, I Didn't actually pay, so no worries :(

Errrrrrrrrr....I went into the AV and realised I don't have a clue what to do! :( I guess its what my mum would think when she sees a PMDG panel, all meaningless gibberish!Help!

Thanks for the link, got close but could'nt find what I wanted. I'll try fumbling around

You mention textures not loading fast enough during >1x speeds. This is very normal, esp on your system. I get textures lagging behind just flying at 1x sometimes and my system is much newer. As for ATC, i believe as a certain accelerated speed, they stop talking to you, I know above 4x AI disappears.

I get you, but as I said this never happened before, I was able to get the textures reloaded pretty fast (Unless flying a detailed aircraft, like POSKY 777v2, into somewhere really dense, like UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme). But I failed to mention before, the number of times FS freezes when a ask something of it (open/close the map, reduce to 4x speed etc), and usually have to exit using Task Manager or even restart the PC. Also the ATC never forgot me before unless I went very far north, above 70* and even then not always. To lgvpilot1, I disabled the AV completely, no joyI have also got the latest nVidia driver, no joy again for me! :( :(
