Best settings for 8800GTS and 1920x1080 resolution
red1 replied to ghiom's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcincreasing resolution along with physical monitor size doesn't magically add more AA. So you can not reduce AA and expect the same image quality. The question of SHOULD YOU lower your AA is a personal preference. You can try 4xS but I personally need atleast 8xS. Or you can do what I did when I upgraded to my new 24inch monitor..buy a GTX 275.

Strange bug after new 24" monitor
To answer your question...no, you do not need any monitor drivers, unless sometimes you use specific programs for your monitor. I've never had to install any monitor drivers.

Monitor Refresh ?
To add to the others...if you have 60 or even 75Hz refresh, but are locked at 30fps, you're seeing 30 frames either way...keep that in mind.

Strange bug after new 24" monitor
Not sure if its a typo or not..but I've never heard of a 1960x1080 resolution..do you mean 1920? If not, thats something to look into. Also, check to make sure your graphics card isn't overheating because of the added stress. Are you running Vista/Win7 or XP?

Engaging AP in PMDG 737NG
I wouldn't use default key assignments for complex planes like PMDG. I only click on the proper buttons on the panel, but you can always look up the specific key assignments under the PMDG menu.

3d scenery
Considering you're posting this in the MFS forum...you'll usually get MFS suggestions.I recommend you post your specs of your new computer so we can see if you can handle FSX at all or to stick with fs9, which can handle 3D scenery.

Todays Navigation Systems
My opinion doesn't really hold too water here as I have not started any official lessons yet, although I do a lot of reading on the topic, but I will say that VORs are already being taken down...yes slowly, but it has started...in the US. I believe that has all the meaning we need. Yes navigation with charts using VORs, land, etc is extremely important to know, and every pilot should be able to use it if the situation arises, but arguing that it is somehow BETTER then using GPS is simply silly. You can not argue that GPS isn't more accurate and more safe, IF IT WORKS. If it doesn't work, you'll have your traditional charts and aids to guide you home. Really simple in my eyes... If you're looking for a challenge or adventure, shut off that GPS is use your charts, but when flying to get to a destination, with fueling running low, ice on the wings, and a solid dark wall all around you, I bet you'll want that IFR-approved, autopilot coupled GPS.

Nose Wheel Technics
A long time ago when I had a joystick with no twist, I assigned rudder left/right to 2 buttons on the joystick. It didn't work well but better then using auto-rudder...give that a try.

Disappearing Autogen in FS9
I see these are replay videos. You checked in real time during these flights that the autogen was gone in 40 minutes right, as reply sometimes has some funky graphical glitches. Assuming you have done that, if you simply pause flight sim for a bit when you notice that autogen disappeared, does it ever pop back up?Also, whats your FPS like after 40 minutes compared to what you have it locked at?

Scenery and AI reloading mid flight
It's normal to get scenery refresh from time to time, esp when covering large distances.

Nose Wheel Technics
If you're using complex add-ons like PMDG, why not start using the rudder properly? As for the question, i've never heard of changing the nosewheel to aileron control.

Lookings for good aviation books
Going on vacation for a week in a few days, bought Fate is a Hunter to keep me company for now. Again, thanks for all the suggestions.

is this too good to be true?
TrackIR is not that expensive and is plug in and play. It'll save you a lot of time fussing around...I'd say it's worth it.

Intersim Studios!
Developing for both fs9 and FSX!! That's great news.

Four GTX480's - wicked video

New FS9 737 NG on its way
I for one would HOPE its payware as that would enable the team to go into much greater detail and support.

New use for a grand old 747!

Yup, I only have a router and no software on my computer. Never even messed with the router besides putting a password on the WiFi...passed with flying colors.. :(

Thoughts on cpu affinity for FS9 and helper apps...
About a year or 2 ago, i ran a lot of tests on my computer to figure out if I should limit fs9 to one core and other programs on the other, or just leave it. Before this, I used to always set fs9 to one core. Well after that, I concluded AT BEST, there was no change. At worst, I'd say running fs9 on one core actually made it worse...but logically it doesn't really make much sense so i'd take that with a grain of salt.
