May 28, 200917 yr Hi guys, glad to see AVSIM is recovering fast. As I am working on a little software project I require some information on slots. Is it possible to get a slot removed shortly before departure while sitting at the gate, whats happening if you miss a slot, how long and why (traffic?, weather?)might a slot be delayed backwards or could you even be offered an earlier slot? Many questions to ask, as you see. So, if someone has a bit of knowledge on this, please let me know!Greets, Benny
May 28, 200917 yr There are a lot of reasons why an airline could lose a slot, some airports even use it as a punishment believe it or not.At Manchester Airport in the UK (EGCC), there are noise abatement rules which the airlines have to adhere to. If the noise monitoring stations around the airport detect a flight going over the prescribed decibel limit on departure, the airline resposible is fined 1 slot for each infraction. It's certainly not the only airport to do that kind of thing either. Whenever I hear a cargo flight really giving it some on take off at night from Manchester, I always think about how the guy in the left seat might be in for a grilling :( Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 28, 200917 yr Thanks for the info...sounds crazy to me. Like Mafia or so :( . So, removal of slots can happen...what about the other questions? My program is finished so far, but needs some finetuning :( .Greets, Benny
May 31, 200917 yr Thanks for the info...sounds crazy to me. Like Mafia or so :( . So, removal of slots can happen...what about the other questions? My program is finished so far, but needs some finetuning :( .Greets, BennyBenny,Slot time or CTOT (Calculated Time Of Takeoff), yeah the penpushers got to that as well.Political correctness, ATC aren't allowed to tell you your number 2 to the Virgin with the tight slot, anymore.I digress, CTOT is a given time to be airborne and you are allowed 5 minutes before and 10 minutes after the actual CTOT.If you are ready to go ( paper work complete, fully loaded, doors closed and tug connected) you can request an earlier slot. This entails contacting your company or the handling agent and asking them to send a "Ready Message" then if an earlier slot becomes available then you will possibly be given it.If you cannot meet the CTOT then you have to cancel your flight plan, if it has not already expired and get the company or agent to file a new plan and negotiate a new slot.the CTOT can depend on a lot of factors:Congestion at the airport of departure,Congestion at the airport of arrival,Congestion on the planned airways,Runway availability at arrival or departure,Weather enroute,Weather at destination,Congestion in the holding areas at destination etc.Hope this helpsSteve
