May 29, 200917 yr I recently bought a new laptop with vastly improved performance for my trusty FS9. I re-installed the same FSPassengers(FSP) product that I used on my previous FS9 installation on the previous PC. The only difference is that the new PC uses Windows Vista. As the FSP installation set-up was done a Vista window popped up telling me that the installation MIGHT not have been completed correctly. It gave me the option of re-installing with the Windows recommended settings or another which simply stated "No, the program was installed correctly". I chose the latter, started FS9 and hoped for the best. The FSP menu displayed correctly in the FS9 menu as it would during a running flight in FS9, if that makes any sense. But as soon as I click on any of the options in the FSP menu, such as start a FSP flight, my screen goes dark even though FS9 is still running according to my task manager. If I press escape it returns to a normal functioning FS9. I then un-installed FSP and re-installed it which made absolutely no difference. The pop up window also never reappeared. I then consulted the FSP website's FAQ section which which told me to start FS9 in administrator mode when using Vista. That also did not change anything. After receiving some advice on the temporary forum I un-installed everything, FS9 included. Re-installed FS9 and re-installed the latest version of FSP as an administrator and tried again, yet still nothing changed.I tried to make contact with the owner of the website but I think he might be swamped with other request for technical help issues. I also tried consulting the FSP forums but is having problems logging in and the owner doesnt reply to any of my desperate plees for help.Is there anyone that has any idea what I am to do to solve this problem? Also have to say well done to the Avsim team for their quick and professional response to the recent events and for keeping us up to date with everything. I praise them for their contribution to the FS community.
May 29, 200917 yr I have it running fine in Win7. My installation when the same way as yours. I right clicked and ran the installer as administrator. I think I had to also install the MS .Net framework 1.1. After that my install had a similar problem and I just ignored it and then the FsPasenger's installer said it was done. The only thing different that I can think is that you also run FS9 as administrator, if not doing so already. The OS might be remembering the installation preference/compatibility you selected during the first install. That might be causing the problems as well. You can right click and check to see if any are being applied to the installer.I hope you can find a solution soon. I have FsPass and really enjoying it. May 29, 200917 yr Wondering why you don't try the simple tried and true method of fixing most windows issues. Un-install, then re-install? Did you try that? I didn't see that in your post as an attempted fix.

I didn't see that in your post as an attempted fix.I know my original post is very long and tedious but if you read through the entire thing you would have seen that I have un-installed and re-installed many different times. I have gone as far as un-installing my entire FS9 and FSP with the hope that it would help, still nothing changed.

I cant help but think that Vista is somehow blocking FSP. I dug into the properties of the FSP.exe file and found a button mentioning that it might be blocked. I then clicked the unblock button, re-installed FSP and it stubbornly still does not work. I once again un-installed everything including FS9 and started again and still it does excatly the same!I can also still not get hold of anyone at FSP to ask for assistance.
May 29, 200917 yr O good lord. :( I did miss the FSP uninstall I just read right over to the uninstall of Fs9. Wow, such lengths. I'll make sure I never buy that product with the support issues you are having. That is pretty disappointing. On the other hand, I have been working on a few friends computers with Vista and the amount of pop ups and questions you have to answer regarding every little thing that goes on the computer is really too much. I imagine its good for protection but the average user just wants to install the damn program, not answer 50 questions with a possible 3 answers to every questions. So I feel for you and believe you are on the right track with permissions. I wish you luck.

You see I don't want to talk badly of it since the product is actually brilliant in my opinion. And I am also not jumping to conclusions about the support system as it is always possible that the designer of the product is running a kind of a one man show. You never know how busy he actually is programming or helping others or he could also be confronted with "real world" issues such as his career or family issues, you never know. And also the actual product has also been given to me as a gift, I did not purchase it personally. So obviously the user name is not my name although I have been given the user name and unlock code needed to get it out of the demo mode. I have mentioned this in all my emails to FSP and I am wondering if that is possibly a cause for him/them to consider me as owning an illegal copy or something. Could that be?More importantly I need to get this fixed as after I became use to flying with FSP I simply don't want to fly any other way. Plus I am thinking of joining a virtual airline and I think the VA's all require you to have FSP to export flight data to them. Then again Im not sure?
May 30, 200917 yr Have you tried running with FS9 windowed instead of full screen? I have had similar issues with video card (ATI) drivers that cause hidden dialog boxes, black screens with menus etc. Usually the dialogs and menus would work when FS9 was not in full screen mode. Just hit ALT+ENTER to switch between full screen and windowed mode. Updating or even rolling back the driver usually helped.

I am eternally great full to you! If I had the resources I would have flown to where ever you are in world and shake your hand personally! I have struggled for so long with this.So how would I go about updating the driver or rolling it back? I am not very familiar with graphic cards and things. If I do this would I be able to run FSP in full screen then?Thanx again :(
May 30, 200917 yr :( Right... after actually checking it out properly I found that after pressing alt-ent my sim basically comes to halt. Everything is ridiculously slow after that, for instance to change view takes about five minutes and my aircraft also stays Gray for about five. I still appreciate your suggestion as at least FSP can be seen and I now have an idea of what might be causing this. Any suggestions on what to do now? :(
