May 31, 200917 yr Hello all:Are any of you pilots using the Aerosoft FS Map? Does it work with PMDG and LevelD aircraft? If it does work is it a benefit or does it lower frame rates etc? Rick Case Avsim Library Administrator AVSIM.COM
May 31, 200917 yr It does work with the PMDG aircraft, but frankly I think Aerosoft's similar product, Flight Keeper, is a better choice for an airliner. Both FS Map and Keeper can be manually installed (if the installer doesn't do it) so they can both work in any aircraft you have with a simple tweak to the config files, which is simple and takes about ten seconds to do.Flight Keeper also has a moving map that works in the same fashion as FS Map, and a TCAS function too, so it offers all the same things FS Map does, but also gives you all the other stuff that Flight Keeper offers, which is a huge amount of functions, and ones that I would not be without on a complex FS airliner, as it is a godsend for flight planning and finding data (such as en-route winds aloft and temperatures) for input into an FMC.If the moving map function is all you are interested in, it's worth noting that both products will load up any map you have, so they both have the same display capabilities on that score. The screen is a bit bigger on the FS Map gauge because it doesn't have the keyboard for input built in as FK does (used to type in Navaid idents and ICAO codes for in-flight info on them, although you can use the keyboard for that), but since you can resize either gauge to make the map bigger, the size difference is something of a moot point really.FS Map, looks a bit prettier as a gauge - more suited to a flashy GA aircraft, since it based on a real Garmin product - whereas Flight Keeper looks like something off the flight deck of the Space Shuttle that Smiths Industries or Honeywell might make (although I suppose that's a matter of opinion), but in terms of what you get for your cash, overall usability and functions, I don't think anyone would disagree that Flight Keeper blows FS Map out of the sky. Considering that they are pretty much the same price, I find it difficult to understand why anyone would not want the additional features Flight Keeper offers. You don't have to guess about them though, both products have a demo you can download and try, so I'd give that a shot. They're both fairly easy on frame rates incidentally, although I only tried the demo of FS Map, Flight Keeper was the one I bought (bit of a no brainer), so keep in mind that my frame-rate knowledge of FS Map was limited to that experience.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
