Active Sky Advanced and PDMG MD11 Compatibility

Featured Replies

I am thinking of purchasing Active Sky Advanced but there seems to a problem in using it with the MD11.Are there people using ASA satisfactorily with the MD11 or is it matter of waiting until an update is available which removes the problems, or perhaps finding another weather add on? I am running FSX on Vista 64Advice is appreciated. On my previous machine I used Active Sky with FS4 and PMDG 737 NG quite happily,Best wishes, John Morgan

I'm using ASA sometimes, when time permits. If you're using it in fs9 it's pretty solid, fsx seems to be the main problem at the moment (seems to be a weather conflict bit in fsx mainly as with ALL the weather progs).I have fsuipc for fsx and it does help out a bit with the odd bits. As for options tailor them to suit you.I just downloaded the latest beta so not tried using that yet but with every release it does improve. Now and again the pmdg planes start wobbling around but as I say, improving...First release was pretty dire in fsx and fs9 to be honest but they are getting there now.Just remember to press the refresh AI when it's been connected for a bit and be ready for changes to runways as fs is prone to be sensitive to wind directions lol. Also give it time to depict the weather, not instant.Other consideration might be REX but can't seem to get to the bottom of whether it will run on 64bit or not. Some say it will, others say not....John Ellison

Add to above ---- yep, installed the larest beta and..... nope, still problems with wind lashing about at 30' swings and 20knots variance lol.Well... live in hope. :( John Ellison

Thanks John. I have also looked at REX and that is reported to be 'buggy'. Will wait a while,Best wishes, John Morgan

I got ASA early on and have used it in FS9 every flight since. Frankly I love it. Yes there are some pretty hairy wind shifts at times but I can only think of one occasion where I've had to take manual control. The MD11 Autoflight systems have handled most of it without fuss. I am looking forward to the fix that will eliminate the issue but it's quite useable in the meantime.
