June 5, 200916 yr Sir,I cannot seem to get the Station Database Management to work at all. KGRK and KHLR (-+5 miles apart) are two airports in the Fort Hood, TX area. I believe the METARS are produced by the Army for both, because for some reason they both ALWAYS show 7sm visibility which means a perpetual gray day. KILE is also very closely located, 3-5 miles, but always shows the correct visibility and weather. I have tried everything I can do to disable both KGRK and KHLR in the Physical Stations, Data Stations, and Airport databases so only the KILE weather would show for the entire area, yet I continue to get the same 7sm visibility. I even tried disabling VOR and NDBs in the area. The disabled box is checked in each instance of these airports/stations. I have also carefully gone through the process of clicking "Save Edit", "Create File", and finally even "Reload file". All to no avail, the KGRK or KLHR weather always shows, both in the closest station METAR and in what is being displayed in the sim.Since these and most Army bases seem to always show perpetual 7sm visibility, I would really like to crack the code on this, get these stations disabled, and see something other than gray skies. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Brad
June 6, 200916 yr Hi Brad,What Build of ASA are you running? As you have figured out, the maximum vis. for those stations is always 7SM. It's just the way they report vis. This causes problems even way back in ASV6.5 when you fly from one station to another and the vis jumps up and down. You may be the first to try and exclude stations so we'll see if we can work things out with you. Thanks,
June 6, 200916 yr Jim, let us ALL know if you come up with some way of handling this, because this is the same problem I have with CYQA, and have posted about in the past. The metar for this airport, my home airport, is 99 percent of the time 9 sm, and just like Brad I'm always in grey skies when it should be clear(ish). Once I'm within influence of a station 10-15 miles away, like while climbing out, that reports 10 sm visibility, the weather suddenly changes to what it should be (and should have been at CYQA), not gradual, sudden. I have to admit, I have not tried to delete or exclude anything from the database. If it can be done I would gladly remove CYQA permanently from my database so ASA could then select the metar from a surrounding airport that consistently shows visibiltiy of 10 sm and my skies are once again blue (when they should be). Thanks Glen
June 6, 200916 yr Sir,I am using the latest 431 build, but have tried to do this an every build. From your statement below that I may be the first to try to fix the vis issue by excluding those stations, makes me wonder if am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Station Database Management function and trying to do something for which it was not intended? My temp fix all the way back to AS6.5 days is to simply download the wx file for my departure or arrival time and hand edit the KGRK and KHLR metar and TAF to match the KILE METAR. Not the most convenient way to do it, but it works in a pinch.Brad
June 7, 200916 yr Hi,Go to Options/Edit Station data and load the Data Stations. Find the stations you wish to disable and check the Disabled? box.Next click on the Save Edit icon.Last click on the Create File icon.I tried this and it woks for your station. Thanks,
June 22, 200916 yr I should have closed this loop a while back so others might not make the same mistake. I did get it to work. What I was doing wrong was not save and creating for each area, Physical Stations, Data Stations, and Airport databases. I was making all the changes and doing it only once, thus only the airport was disabled. Thanks for the help.Brad
June 22, 200916 yr Hi Brad,I had no trouble getting it to work, I disabled the airport I was trying to disable. My problem is the airport I excluded is still not depicting the closest airport per my post with the same heading, check out my screen shots. How did you make out, any luck?Glen
June 23, 200916 yr Glen,I had the same problem until I saved and created in each area. In my particular case, once I disabled KGRK and KHLR in each of the Physical Stations, Data Stations, and Airport databases, I only see KILE as the closest station when parked at either KGRK or KHLR. The Lampasas or Temple weather stations don't start effecting my local depiction until I move closer to them and it appears they interpolate with only the KILE weather since 7m vis doesn't pop up. I am a happy camper with what it is depicting in that area after doing this. I've started doing the same thing in around most of the Army bases and other stations that seem to only report low vis.Brad
June 23, 200916 yr Hi Brad & Jim,Thanks for the update. I went to the location your modifying to see if there was any similarity to the area I'm trying to modify and there completely different. I looked at a 100mi radius from KILE, and there are 11 weather stations (not including the 2 you disabled) in that area, and 10 of them are "true/real", in other words, not interpolated. The only interpolated station is KRCK. Within a 100mi radius of the airport I'm trying to modify (did modify, it's gone) there are 4 stations, and they are all interpolated. I wonder if that has anything to do with me still not being able to get clear skies at my airport (CYQA) when in the real world the skies are clear. Jim, if you read this it may be something to look at, not that it seems anything can be done(?). Glen
June 24, 200916 yr Hi Glen,I disabled CYQA and the vis is now correct, based on CDH1. After saving and generating the three new files I did need to close ASA and restart it and then things worked for me.Thanks,
June 24, 200916 yr Jim, as per my post on the same subject, I updated it the other day, maybe you missed it. I've listed the files and their locations and their current state. Are these the correct three files? My system is shutdown and restarted everyday:Hi Jim, second test.Had to wait till later Friday for the weather to clear to get a good comparison. First off here are the lines from my:Airports.dat in "C:\Documents and Settings\Glen XXXX\Application Data\HiFi\ASA\StationsEdits" "CYQA,44.975,-79.303,922,-1,-1"DownloadStations.dat "C:\Documents and Settings\Glen XXXX\Application Data\HiFi\ASA\StationsEdits "CYQA::44.967::-79.283::282::MUSKOKA AIRPORT::-1::-1"wx_station_list.txt "C:\Documents and Settings\Glen XXXX\Application Data\HiFi\ASA\Weather" no CYQA.There is a DownloadStations.dat in "C:\Documents and Settings\Glen XXXX\Application Data\HiFi\ASA" no CYQA.Here are the screen shots:CDH1 Clear - very close to current conditions, perfect.Moved to CYQA in FS9, did a Refresh of ASA and waited the 10 minutes for the download and update to complete. 17:58 first screen - 18:08 second screenCYQA using CDH1 Metar as per Seek Station "CDH1" - Overcast, not close to current conditions.GlenTested again today, same result, won't bother posting screen shots. Maybe I should reinstall?
June 24, 200916 yr Hi,When you are at CYQA give me a screen shot as you have been doing, but with the ASA Report screen showing, not the Map screen. Thanks,
