June 26, 200916 yr Hi Jim,Options/Visibility sitting at CYQA:Ok, I did some testing and have found something, don't know what. I tried something different today. Normally when I fly I start ASA and let it finish its download and all the other stuff it does, then I start FS9 and choose the Departure airport and the aircraft I'm going to use. This morning I did everything the same, except that I started directly from CYQA in the main menu screen of FS9, instead of starting at CDH1 and switching to CYQA once the simulator had loaded. FS9 loaded me at CYQA, I waited for ASA to do its thing, and the skies were nice and clear. Now this is where the problem starts.I then switched to CDH1 to see what it looked like, waited for ASA to do its download/depiction update, all was fine. I then switched back to CYQA, waited for ASA to do its download/depiction update and the skies were gray/overcast. I then shutdown FS9 and ASA and started the whole process over again, and again went straight to CYQA from the initial main menu screen of FS9, and the skies were gray/overcast. I then decided to shut everything down and reboot my computer, hoping to recreate the "first flight of the day". Started ASA and let it do its thing, started FS9, went straight to CYQA from the main menu of FS9 and the skies were grey/overcast. I will test tomorrow choosing CYQA as the first airport of the day and see if I can get clear skies (weather permitting) like I did this morning. I guess the questions are: Why was it able to depict properly the first flight of the day, but not after, even after rebooting? It's seems that once CYQA is gray/overcast it won't change, even with a system reboot, and why does it go gray/overcast in the first place when I switch airports? A user should be able to bounce around to whatever airport they choose, in the same session, as long as they wait for ASA to do its downloads/updates, which isn't too long in FS9, so I don't mind waiting. If that's the way it's supposed to work, then something is definitely wrong at my end. Also, I don't load a flight plan, which shouldn't be necessary when testing for depiction. Glen
June 27, 200916 yr Hi Jim,First off, Jim/Brad (if you read this Brad) I should have asked a simple question that should be obvious and asked in the first place, are you doing this in FS9 so the results are equal to mine, we all know how different FS9 and FSX can be? Saturday morning test. Thought I may have found something on Friday, unfortunately today no change. Started ASA, let it finish, fired up FS9 and went straight to CYQA from the main menu screen, first flight of the day, gray skies. From within FS9 menu, switched to CDH1, ASA did its download/update, clear skies. Here is something interesting.Whenever I move to CYQA from CDH1, as soon as ASA recognizes the change and moves on the map screen, the sky immediately changes to gray, THEN ASA does it download/update automatically, but the sky never changes to clear, it just stays gray. Why is the sky at CYQA turning gray BEFORE the download/update has taken place, it changes to gray the exact second that the location change takes place on the map.Another thing to notice in the current screen shots is the wind direction. I turned on the location information in FS9 to show the lat/lon and noticed that the wind direction was different between CYQA and CDH1. If CYQA is getting the exact same metar information as CDH1, the wind direction should be exactly the same. Something is still affecting CYQA in some way. The data that is going from ASA to FS9 is being altered. CYQA no longer exists in the Physical, Station or Airport files/databases, so I have no idea. Why does CYQA show up in the file current_synthesized_wx.txt from (C:\Documents and Settings\Glen XXXX\Application Data\HiFi\ASA\Weather) this morning, and CDH1 doesn't exist at all (because it's interpolated?), and what's with those clouds, BKN269 SCT275:CYQA::CYQA 271200Z 36006KT 9SM BKN269 SCT275 16/12 Q1013::CYQA 271138Z 2712/2724 35007KT P6SM SKC BECMG 2721/2723 27010KT::061,008,17.3/002,014,10.6/357,018,07.0/350,023,03.2/006,037,-09.4/353,057,-22.1/006,100,-34.6/000,118,-45.2/359,106,-57.5/352,056,-54.8/354,025,-60.1Location: CYQADay of month: 27Time: 12:00 UTCWind: True direction = 360 degrees, Speed: 6 knotsVisibility: 9 Statute MilesClouds: Broken sky , at 26900 feet above aerodrome levelClouds: Scattered , at 27500 feet above aerodrome levelTemperature: 16 degrees CelsiusDewpoint: 12 degrees CelsiusQNH (Sea-level pressure): 1013 hPaHere is CYQA data from current_wx_snapshot.txt file, CDH1 doesn't exist:CYQA::CYQA 271200Z AUTO 36006KT 9SM CLR 16/12 A2992 RMK SLP132::CYQA 271138Z 2712/2724 35007KT P6SM SKC BECMG 2721/2723 Neither CYQA or CDH1 exist in this mornings wx_station_list.txt.The shots were taken fairly early in the morning so the difference in sky color is not as pronounced as high noon, but they are different.CYQACDH1GlenEdit: Jim, today I went so far as to uninstall ASA, deleted everything to do with ASA, reinstall, do the edits (Airport,Data,Station), save edit, create file, and in FS9 IT DOESN'T WORK. Load ASA, let it finish, Start FS9, go to CDH1, all looks good, go to CYQA, gray skies.
June 28, 200916 yr Hi Glen,It wasn't working for me correctly today either so I looked into this and I disabled CYBN and things worked all day. Glen, I really don't know why or can explain things! Thanks!
