Landing at CKU with IPhone

Featured Replies

Hi,I am a newbie to XPlane being a FSX simmer from its inception until now and having some MFS version since its beginning. I just got XP9 and still have to install it, but I have been using the IPhone version for several months now, to try it out. One airport I just can't seem to land at without smashing the Cessna 172 into a mountain is CKU airport in the Boswell Bay Alaska region. I used the 172 since it is slower, but even when touching down at about 75 knots with full brakes and flaps, I go off the end of the runway and crash into the side of a mountain at the end of the runway. Any ideas how to land on this short strip without crashing? Thanks. Regards, TomP.S.Does anyone know if this is an accurate representation of this airport? If it is, is that mountain really at the end of the runway at one end, and is it possible to land at all from that direction??

Hi Tom.I am not familiar with the "IPhone version", but I do know about real flying and 172s. You should come in full flaps, at about 50KTS over the threshold, they will fly as low as 35, as soon as you touch down you should be in a Stall attitude, when the nose gear touches down hit the brakes and keep pulling back on the yoke. Ideally you can also retract the Flaps before you hit the brakes, but holding the nose up will give you some aerodynamic drag / brake, and you should stop very quickly.
