June 18, 200916 yr Hi Guys,Just flew into ESMS (reporting wind 27018G27) and I was really impressed with the gusts all the way down final.I was about to post and give a big :( , but one small note,As I got below 1000ft the gusts suddenly stopped and it stayed stable at 18 knots. You have nearly cracked it.Can't work out why it stops at low level.ThanksNeil
June 19, 200916 yr Hi,They shouild have continued all the way down. I can't test until next week, but try again and see what happens and report here. Thanks,
June 19, 200916 yr Author Thanks Jim,Just did some further testing.Flew into EDDH at about 0850Z (19/6/09). There were thunderstorms in the area and moderate rain.Coming down the approach ASA was giving me some really good turbulence (as would be expected in a thunderstorm). So much so that I had to disconnect the Autothrottle and continue manually.I was looking forward to a really challenging landing, but alas, as I descended through 1000ft again, all the turbulence disappeared. This could just be a coincidence, so I will endeavor to test some more.ThanksNeil
July 16, 200916 yr Hi Neil, Jim I had a nice approach tonight in LGMK. Global wx on,ASA beta, metar reported 340/17G27. It was depicted all time, no problems at all, nice variable gusts until landing and after, even after parking! :) It seems working correctly here.Cheers,Fede Federico Bellato
July 17, 200916 yr Author Hi Fede,Thanks for the info. All I can think is that the weather must have updated just as I passed 1000ft.I must get hold of one of those RC banners. Where did you download it from?ThanksNeilC
July 17, 200916 yr Hi Neil,I sent an email to your private address. You know what you could try? Set the wx on your own, specify gusts in the wx configurator (or how it is called, don't know) try climbing and descending, like circuits, you know, and see. Maybe it's as you say, the wx has updated while you were descending, and the gusts had stopped. In my case it happened the opposite: checked the wx before app., and it was 14 knots "only" (in a PA34, they're quite many) then as I was descending I couldn't understand what was going on, and checked again: 17 with gusts to 27. So, you never know... :)CheersFede Federico Bellato
