June 19, 200916 yr Looking for a long anticipated avsim review of a certain 737 NG add-on for FSX.Should I assume it's been swept under the carpet?jlm
June 19, 200916 yr It has not been ditched as far as I'm aware - I certainly hope not anyway, as it took me a long time to write it! It is still listed as 'submitted for editing' on the reviewers site, so I've no reason to imagine it will not show up at some point.I submitted it to Robert Whitwell - AVSIM's hardworking and often unappreciated reviews editor - just before the hack took AVSIM out, but it is up to the him to decide when a review goes up on the site, so the actual appearance of a review has nothing to do with the person who writes it. It is not uncommon for reviews to take a while to appear; any AVSIM reviewer will tell you they often see reviews on the main page when they have completely forgot about them, having submitted them some weeks beforehand.Needless to say the hack of AVSIM put the schedules slightly awry, so that almost certainly has had a bearing on things from a scheduling point of view. You have to remember that the Ariane 737 review was one I voluntarily offered to do and shoehorned into the schedules, so there will be new products that are reviewed and more timely in terms of appearance, which means the Ariane review, like an airliner at an airport, may have to await its slot. It is worth noting that Robert is also heavily involved in organising the AVSIM fancom too, and I would imagine that involves a bit of work to say the least.Anyway, as far as I know, it is still in the pipeline. In the meantime, here's a pic to prove that if you are prepared to mess around in Photoshop long enough, it is possible to repaint it yourself even without a paint kit, although you do end up having to re-draw most of the textures and all the panel lines, effectively creating your own paint kit, but I never let something like that stop me LOL:You can 'soup up' the avionics too if you faff around with customising the gauges, I did that as well. Mine has a VSD, a Radar and ACARS now :-)Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

June 20, 200916 yr It's a 2D pop up for the CDU with Shift+2, in fact it is about the only 2D pop up panel there is on the FSX version of the Ariane 737 (unless you add other panels as I have). I always use that 2D panel for sticking stuff in the FMC anyway but I think (note that is think) the odd button on the CDU will work in the VC (certainly not all of them will though), so as far as I recall the CDU isn't really that usable in the VC apart from to look at its display, which does reflect what page you have selected on the 2D version.Pop up 2D CDU in the Ariane FSX 737:Now that you mention it, that is a bit weird actually, since the thing is really geared to being a 'VC only' aircraft in FS. But one thing I certainly have noticed about the pop up CDU panel on the Ariane FSX 737, is that it is very responsive to mouse presses, whereas I've found other pop up CDUs, such as the one in the FSX CS 757 can occasionally lag just a microsecond or two behind your mouse clicks. The one in the Ariane never seems to suffer from that. Not a big deal on the CS 757 when that happens really, but it does nevertheless indicate that the Ariane 737 is very good on FPS in FSX, which is in fact one of its major plusses. That usability is at the expense of it not looking as 'pretty' in the VC as the CS 757, but I'll take usability over pretty any day of the week, and it's not as if it is ugly, just not quite so pretty.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
