June 28, 200916 yr OK. I give up. Every time I fly a mission, I have to go to Views/Viewmode/cockpit/cockpit to change the layout of the instrument panel to 2D. There must be a way of setting up the cockpit view as 2D by default. I have gone to Settings/Display/Aircraft /Default cockpit view and set it at 2D with no effect I have even set it to 3D Virtual cockpit in the hope that it may work Back to front. I am not frightened of "fiddling in files" as long as I am using the right info. Can somebody help please........normael :(

If not, you can copy the backup from the FSX folder to the working location ...\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\ alongside the FSX config file... Or just rename it and let FSX recreate it from the backup.Additionally, newly created flights get some "configuration" settings from the default flight. You might also try setting a default flight with the 2D cockpit loaded instead of the VC and see if that works. Actual programmed missions may possibly have the VC set as default view; I don't know if that is a fact or not, but it's possible.Hope this helps...Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
June 28, 200916 yr I too prefer to fly the 2D view and was frustrated that the flights open with 3D displayed as default. Not a biggie but a bit of a hassle. Then I found an easy solution....1. Start FSX2. At the bottom of the left menu of the "home page" , you find "Settings". Select it.3. Under "Display Settings", select "Customize"4. Select "Aircraft" from the top menu choices5. Select "2-D" under "Default Cockpit View"Now, everytime you fly a new flight (not a saved one) the panel will open in 2-D mode.I hope this proves helpful.

I hate o tell you but I have done all that a million times but it still persists in opening in Virtual Cockpit. I was hoping there might be a way of altering the default view in the config file or something. Thanks anyway but I guess my computer doesn't want to follow the rules.........normael

June 29, 200916 yr Well, er... :( Normael, did you try to save the flight as default while in the 2D cockpit? No. Can you tell me how to set a Mission as a default flight? normael

In the end, I started a Mission then immediately pressed F10, then Clicked on colon to save it. To then fly that mission, I tick the box that says"Show Saved Missions and selected the date below the flight I want. It's all a bit messy but it works.......normael
July 2, 200916 yr Well, you could hand edit the .FLT files associated with the missions to change them to 2D panel mode (not sure the exact set of changes, after loading a mission or flight and changing to 2D mode, save the flight and then look at the differences between the files).Tim Tim http://fsandm.wordpress.com
