FSX Frame Limiter

Featured Replies

Hi Guys - Can someone please explain this?Im using the default performance settings in FSX after just re-installing it. I have set the frame limiter down to 26FPS, and performance is rubbish. Pressing Shift + Z a couple of times shows the FPS flapping around the 18 - 23 mark. Note that it doesnt hit my limit target. As i understand it, the Frame Limiter will free up system resources? Now heres the thing thats making me curious: Keeping the exact same settings, but this time setting the Frame Limit to Unlimited, my FPS shoots through the roof! Its still fluctuating quite a bit, but this time its between 35 and 46 FPS! Could even crank up a few settings without impacting performance that much.

As my tuning list says.. that tool is a LAST RESORT onlyYou need to TUNE FSX for your system without that tool in use and if the system runs fine, dont use itI am probably going to remove that entry from the tuning list. I see more people assume the use of that tool has value without setting up FSX with the system properly first which is absolutely false

There is a Java-based third party addon that was much talked about some time ago (in this thread). I think Nick (as did I) assumed you referred to that tool in your original post.I'm, not terribly competent when it comes to FSX tuning but I believe (I think that's from Nick too btw) that what you're seeing is pretty common if you fly over urban environments. I have seen this too whereas rural sceneries sometimes perform better when you limit the FPS. I have no idea why this is so however.Cheers/Jonas

OK.. assumption on my part mainly because I have seen 4-5 complaints from people using the FPS Limiter tool (3rd party addon) when they first install FSX and do not tune it right in the last 2 weeksWhat you are posting about is normal.. there are many times when I must swich from frame limited to unlimited based on the scenery installed and how much is being rendered. Typically in large urban unlimited works better where outside urban locked 28-30 works bestHowever what it comes down to is the right setup from config file to sliders prior to testing for framelocksee this tuning thread for details http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041
