Possibility of overclocking?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, kinda new here....I own a Gateway FX-6800-01e(bought from best buy) with a intel i7 920 2.66GHz. Is there any possibilty of overclocking it to 3.0 GHz or more? FSX plays decent but i still want more FPS since I have alot of addons installed. I looked inside the case and is has a crazy looking cooling fan....

Hi,I'm running my 920 without problems at 3.0Ghz, however others run it at much higher speeds like 3.4-3.8GhzYou need a very good cooler though, otherwise you CPU gets cooked. At 100% load (i.e 4 cores + HT) my CPU is doing about 62C, at idle about 43CRunning FS9 on 1 core at 100% and without HT, temp is about 57C.The max temp Intel advises/supports for the 920 is 67.9C

OEM systems generally are not overclockable without replacing the BIOS with a custom one. The only way to find out is to go into your BIOS and check what options are available.
