What should this value be for something similar to that of FSX in terms of pan rate speed? Also is there a way to go straight into the VC instead of starting on the 2D panel?

Second question:Setup a flight and get into VC mode. Save that flight and put a check mark in the "make this the default flight" box when you save it.Then when you start FS2004 that flight will be presented to you as the default flight. Many of the details of that flight (state of the engines etc.) will be transferred to whatever aircraft you select to actually fly - including starting in the VC.Hope that helps. :(
