What Settings Improve Tileproxy?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, Like many of you, 'I've spent hours and hours trying to get the best out of Tileproxy, so I thought I would share a few successes. It would be great if you try any of them and they work well for you, that you add a reply. Also, if anyone else wants to share their success stories, here is a thread to do just that.1. My most recent discovery is that the LOD radius setting in the FSX.cfg is set by default to 4.5. Tileproxy looks fantastic if you set it to 8.5 though my system was not really up to that and I got low framerates at detailed airports. I've settled on 6.5 as a good compromise, though 8.5 is good if I keep away from the airports. Beware though that if after altering this, you alter any scenery settings in FSX, it seems to default back to 4.5 again. Also, the higher settings do slow down the time it takes to load a flight.2. In the Proxyuser.ini I've tried a lot and settled on the following:max_lod=17 - Not sure why this works as I'm only using 1m textures but I've tried lowering this and don't seem to get good results.preload_min_lod=9 - I've never found any benefit from altering this setting at all.preload_max_lod=17 - Not sure why this works as I'm only using 1m textures but I've tried lowering this and don't seem to get good results.blend_distance=180.0 - This gave me a better water transition in most places I have flown (this was a compromise setting as I was torn between 150 and 200).cache_bytes_limit=250000000 - Not sure why this works best but I've experimented with various levels and this seems to be the best.cache_tiles_limit=250000 - Not sure why this works best but I've experimented with various levels and this seems to be the best.3. I only use service example 1 (VE) and here are my settings:[service Example 1]cache_folder=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\cache.service1network_module=libnettilemodule_config="conn=22|rate=1.0|verbose=0|server=http://a*.ortho.tiles.virtualearth.net|path=/tiles/a%s.jpeg?g=%v|quad=0123|balance=0123|useragent=Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"min_level=9max_level=19map_version=300level_mapping=9,10,11,13,14,14,15,16,17,18,19color_hack=Nocolor_level=13bulk_extend=50Again here, what doesn't make sense to me is that I am using 1m textures yet getting rid of 18 and 19 and replacing lower numbers doesn't make things any better at all.Keep the visability down to 20 miles or no more than 30 miles.Keep the speed below 80 kts. That means flying the microlight, gliders or anything else that flies that slow.If textures start to get blurry, circle or pause for a few seconds.Framerates - I've found locked at 25 works best having tried various others.Hope you find this useful. Get back if any of these work better for you or the results of your own experimentation.Christian - if you want to make any comments, it would be great to hear from you. Much more fun than making slot machines icon1.gifCheers, IAN
