July 9, 200916 yr I was over at Flightsim.com reading the PMDG MD-11 review and the author wrote the following:"While the sales literature describes the system requirements to be pretty average, you may have difficulties on longer flights with less than 6 GB of RAM and a 64 bit operating system. While I was able to complete the tutorial on the 5th try, it was after running out of memory and crashing to the desktop on several occasions."Granted he is using a 64bit OS, but can less than 6GB of RAM cause it to run out of memory and crash? Is 4GB on XP enough to avoid this? Thanks,RH
July 9, 200916 yr Thats impossible to say..It really all depends on your components, and system resorces being used at the time..
July 10, 200916 yr That's why I went to 8GB RAM on my new system with 64-bit OS.Using the performance monitor in Win 7 RC, it's possible to see that FSX does seem to use slightly more RAM now that I've got 6GB than when I had only 4GB. Without trying very hard, I can get FSX's working set up to about 2.5GB. Previously this would be exceptional, with 1.9GB to 2.1GB being a more typical maximum. This all suggests to me that the extra RAM is not (completely) wasted. But on the other hand, I don't remember getting any OOM errors with 4GB under a 64-bit OS (provided the swap file was turned on).Tim 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor.
