FSX Acceleration Pack - what's in it?

Featured Replies

I have FSX with SP2 installed at present. In terms of add-ons, Active Sky Advanced, Ultimate Terrain, Digital Aviation Cheyenne & Fokker 70/100, PMDG MD-11, Realair Spitfire.Acceleration pack is now out there quite cheaply. I cannot find a categoric statement of what is contained in it.I know that there are additional models (notably the F18 and EH101), that carrier ops are included as are pylon racing and additional missions. I'm not especially interested in any of that and I already have SP2. However, I'm sure I read somewhere that Acceleration Pack included additional "detailed" airports. I cannot find any review which confirms that - they are all much more interested in screenshots of racing or carrier landings. Are there extra detailed airports? If so, how many and does the added detail consist only of scenery or does it include more detailed STAR & transition approaches?

I think you pretty much answered all your questions yourself. It does add a few things like carrier landing and the abilty to sling loads , and i believe the racing but thats it, its worth it for the carrier landings.

You get a few new planes (e.g. F-18, a Mustang for racing, a new helo for hoisting) and a few new missions along with it.You also get Edwards air base in high res photo terrain, and some other detailed locations for air races (Istanbul, etc)Regarding the missions: I love e mission where you have to show the defense minister around the air base. He doesn't like abrupt flight maneuvers because of his bad back - he'll complain and get you fired. When Acceleration came out, I think Rumsfeld was still in office. So I purposely shook the plane just to annoy the frak out of him ;)One more noteworthy addition is the inclusion of 3m LIDAR data for all of Mount Helens and surrounding area. It is used in a rescue mission. Just for kicks, I tried to use Tileproxy photo terrain on top of that - the accuracy is astounding. The elevation data accurately depicts roads and even buildings such as a barrage. My question was, are there additional detailed airports and, if so, is there just additional detail in the airport scenery or are there also more detailed approaches?Fantastic pics of Mt Helens BTW! Wow.

Edwards is very detailed in terms of buildings and other props placed on its scenery. Can't comment on any additional approach features, I am not an instrument flyer. They probably also modelled the airstrip in Reno in accurate detail, to enhance the experience at the air races

I am pretty sure that Acceleration does not touch SIDS and STARS and navaids. FSX on its own uses a rather old set of navaids by now. I don't think Microsoft updated that data. I'm not 100% sure on that, but fairly sure. Given that the ATC doesn't use SIDS or STARS, the only place in FSX + Acceleration you can find instrument approaches is in the GPS. You can always download your own AIRAC data from the Internet. As for Mt. St. Helens, that represents a real high point for scenery from Microsoft, literally and figuratively. I attended a lecture where they described the entire modelling process, fascinating work. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

Are there additiona detailed airports? If so:1) Is there enhanced airport scenery?2) Do additional airports have STARS/Transitions as a few of the bigger airports have in the base FSX package?
