July 12, 200916 yr Helloi am as new to modifying the FSX class data as i can be.I would simply like to know which is the easiest way to remove water bodies (dams and lakes) from the default scenery .The particular problem with them here is double. First the ones i want to remove are missplaced and then there is the fact that their outline seems to be imposing a flattening of the area which destroyes the sourrounding mesh . will the removal of the water body just solve the water texture presence or will it also remove the associated flattening?
July 13, 200916 yr In FSX, the solution is to create one or more polygons tagged for "exclusion". Depending on the area, a single polygon with exclusion set to "all" would work, or if there were other terrain in the area you want to keep, you could create one exclusion for water bodies, and a second for the shorelines. FSX also has a terrain type of GPS water bodies, but I don't think many people try to mod these. The exclusion polygons need to overlap the default terrain features, which generally are clipped at QMID11 boundaries. they don't need to be exact, just a triangle or rectangle that overlaps is sufficient. In most cases, your new terrain will have to extent all the way to the next QMID11 boundary to match up with the remaining default terrain. In FSX, excluding the water body will also remove the flattening effect and restore the mesh.scott s..
