Sudden frame rate drop/Complete freeze up

Featured Replies

This is for anyone, such as myself, that still has FS2002 on installed system (since there isn't a FS2002 forum anymore I figure this is the best place to post this)? Do you recall having any problems with it freezing up on you in spot plane mode? Several times, lately, I've had this happen or seen the frame rate drop to near zero for no good reason for what seemed like an eternity (but was probably only a minute or two) while in spot plane mode. It froze up on me twice in a row while on the ground at Paderborn-Lippstadt preparing to take off for a flight to Hamburg. One time, as I was taxing to the runway, I had just switched from 2D panel to spot plane when it froze up mid-way through refreshing the aircraft livery. Both times FS2002 froze up completely I had to reboot my system to unfreeze it. So far this problem as only occurred in spot plane mode...This may be limited to FS2002 but I haven't flown FS2004 or FSX since I've experienced this so I can't be sure yet. Initially I thought the FMC for the PMDG 737NG might be the cause as I was running it at the time when I was in mid-air when the frame rate all but came to a complete halt. But then I realized that I updated the driver for my Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card through Windows Update back in June so now I'm wondering if the new driver might be the cause. I normally DON'T update a driver unless it is absolutely necessary (I'm a firm believer in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy!). The 6200 had replaced a 5700 card which next had this problem. I guess I should do some flying in FS2004 and FSX to see if the problem happens with either one. If it does I guess I'll have to seriously consider rolling back the graphics card driver to the previous one....Actually, I've only experienced this problem recently (I hadn't done any flying in quite a while though) and it has actually only happened a handful of times. Enough to be a nuance but not enough be a chronic problem (yet).... Scott

Hello,

My rule for update graphic driver is to get them from the Nvidia site or from the graphic card develloper .. and certainly not from Windows updates .Now .. about new drivers I use myself a TI 4600 and use with great satisfaction the old drivers provided for this card.I tried the most recent drivers available for this serie .. and the results were not good. Results can vary .....Newest is not allway the best badteeth.gifRegards.bye.gifGus.
