Nvidia GeForce 6200 and Flight Simulator 2004

Featured Replies

Hi all,I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with the Nvidia GeForce 6200. It's an AGP and it's 256 MB. This is the problem I have with this video card: When I load flight simulator, it flickers or the screen goes dark a split second a few times when it's loading. I already increase the refresh rate or the vertical scan rate to 75 or 85 and it still does the same thing. I downloaded the latest drivers and it was no better. As a matter of fact, it was a little worse. After installing the latest drivers, there would be streaks going across my screen as I was flying along. I also called tech support and they had me to download another driver that was in their archive and it still did not make any differece. Does anyone know why this particular video card flickers and why it streaks when I installed the latest drivers? My other question is that which video cards are the best. Is it the Radeon ATI or is it the Nvidia? Or is one about as good as the other? I purchased the Radeo HD 4200 Pro and it was 512 MB and AGP interface. The problem I had with this card is that about 5 minutes later after starting flight simulator, the screen would go black and flight simulator would crash. I called their tech support and they didn't solve my problem, so I just took it back. I liked th the Radeon video card very much but the screen would go black and flight simulator would just stop. Have any of you had this problem with the ATI HD 4200 and what could be causing it? My video card works fine but the fan makes a noise and it gets on my nerves. The video card I have now is the Nvidia GeForce Ti 4200.Ken.

If the fan "makes a noise" I assume it's working over time. Perhaps you're having a heat issue with the 4200?As far as the flickering goes, I don't recall any of the older Geforce cards like yours having that issue in FS9. I'm not really up to knowledge on those AGP cards, though. A search on Google, for me, has turned up no answers. As far as the Nvidia vs ATI question goes, that's a can of worms that will never be settled. But obviously that 4200 you have is a step up, at least compared to the 6200.
