Evga 285ssc boot trouble

Featured Replies

Hi,I just got an evga 285 ssc to replace my 8800gts and am having booting problems, the machine only boots once in a while and most of the time i can't get into thebios and have to keep turning off and on till it decides to reset the bios. The rest of my system is: E8500 (stock speed) Asus P5E (bios flashed to rampage) 2x2gb mushkin ascent OCZ GameXStream 700W ATX12V 24PIN SLI Ready Active PFC ATX Power Supply Audigy xtreme gamer WD640 Black (vista64) WD 150gb Raptor (FS9)Everything was fine with the 8800gts and have tried the other pcie slot, had my 8500 to 4.0,i cleaned the drivers and put in the new card and all this started. My power supply is over two years old and wonder if that is the problem,or should i rma the card.any help appreciated,Tony.

It's either PSU or card. You won't know which until you replace one or the other. Your PSU is spec'd to handle the load of that card so I think you should RMA the card first.

That's what i will start with then, rma'ing the card.just as a note,i plugged in my gts and it booted no problem, then plugged in the 285and it booted multiple times no problem, then waited 30min,tried and no boot just like before.thanks for the help,Tony.Edit:in looking on the power supply,it lists under the 12v-18a,does this mean amps and if it does this would not be enough?
