July 29, 200916 yr Hello all,This is my first topic here. We are constructing Cessna 172 simulator from real C172 fuselage. The project have been going on for last 3 years now.We have managed to get 2 real headsets for the sim and now we would like to connect them into FS2004 & Vatsim. We also have C172 style handmic.Could you kindly advice as closely as possible how could we create this intercom system with 2 headsets + handmic.Thank you very much for your help in advance.Sincerely,OPHere are few pics of the sim: http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/C...ly+2009/011.JPG http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/C...ly+2009/015.JPG http://www.lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/C...ly+2009/017.JPG also have few videoclips: CLIP1: http://lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/assor...20panel/021.AVI CLIP2: http://lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/assor...t+panel/016.AVI CLIP3: http://lentosimulaattori.1g.fi/kuvat/assor...t+panel/023.AVI
July 29, 200916 yr Could you not start with a real world intercom system? From there I guess it'd be some relatively simple wiring (some one else can help with that one). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 29, 200916 yr Could you not start with a real world intercom system? From there I guess it'd be some relatively simple wiring (some one else can help with that one).Thank you for the answer. Using real intercom system might come handly but also expensive as this might be possible to do without the real thing. Also I'm not sure how much can be used from the real thing at the end.
July 29, 200916 yr I would advise you to send a PM to Pete Dowson on these forums, since I know he is currently working on something very similar for the audio in a sim cockpit (but with a 737) and is of course very clued up about that sort of thing. I imagine he would be able to offer some useful advice with regard to the best ways to go about it.Welcome to AVSIM by the way, I just took a look at your pics of the project and it looks like you've done quite a repair job on the cabin. Great stuff. Here's to seeing the Cessna 'fly' again!Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 29, 200916 yr Actually: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/pa400_3bl.phpI'd say that' affordable. There's going to be a lot of wire working anyway you go. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 11, 200916 yr First from a cockpit builder standpoint. You should check out 'The Home Builders' Forum here at AVSIMhttp://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=142There you will find a great deal of info as well as being able to ask people that are 'in the know' of what your going through when building a home simulator.Second to get to your question..You have a few things going on when using your 'RW' headset in the flight sim. They are - out the box not directly compatible with a PC sound system. You will need an adapter for your headset. If you use a 'RW' intercom this problem will still exist as you're trying to marry the two together. This simpit builder has built such an adapter.http://www.baron58.com/Headset%20adapter.htmIf you back up a page you will find quite a bit of info on building your own that you can use. His site is a great resource.Saitek makes an aviation style headset that is a PC headset that looks and feels like the 'Real' thing. No adapter required but you loose the ability to select the Aviation headset you would like to use (they only have the one).http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/pfhead.htmI was hoping they would make an adapter (intercom) that could do both things at the same time (signal conversion + intercom). Someone will I'm sure one day.I myself want to design a bridge that will do everything.Vox ATC - VATSIM (Aux/PC Noise cancelling for ATC sound priority override)Intercom (Pilot to Co-pilot) + PTT/Mic out to PC for VATSIMCockpit sounds (FSX sounds - including enunciators)AUX sound input (Music/Local Scanner ATC freq)Signal conversion to and from PC sound system to RW headsets.+ Various mixing and amping to make the sounds from various sources realistic. This will require a few things to do it right. But they can be added as the cockpit is built.Sound sources (Input side)Computer 1 - Main FSX system (FSX sounds)Computer 2 - Secondary (Flight instruments / ATC-VATSIM)Mic 1 & 2 from both headsets.4 Aux inputs- MP3 Player- Scanner (Local ATC)- Home intercom system ?- Cell/Home Phone ?Bridge (Mixer/Amp/Converter/PTT controller)Vox (FSX sound cancelling/reduction) during ATC communicationsPTT Switch (Manual/Automatic)- Manual/Automatic sound reductionPTT (for ATC communications)- FSINN switch for VATSIM operationsVolume/Balance controls- Normal flight (Master Volume)- FSX sounds (computer 1) could also be controlled via Computer 1 sound output- PTT/ATC operations (computer 2)--- Bridge will switch between when PTT is selected--- If automatic when an audio signal comes from computer 2--- (Delay selector for return to normal operations timing)1 Balance control- Intercom / Aux in (routed back through to Master Volume).Sound (output side)PTT out to ATC (VATSIM)2 Headset out- Pilot- Co-Pilot1 Standard non converted record/aux out- Video creation/PC Headset/3rd person audio/Non ATC operationI want design/build that bridge for the eventual use of 2 computers but I can split the signal from one to create the two bus inputs currently. As I only have the one computer now. Now real world portable intercoms run off of a battery as it's portable so it's power isn't plugged into the aircraft which could be bad for various reasons anyway mine would not need that limitation so I will have an AC/DC power supply. I'm pretty sure I thought of everything? I may want a cell/home phone jack and or a home intercom input/output too for calls when in flight? Not sure yet? I'll have to draw on several sources to put this together but when done and working I'll share with everyone. It's essentially a mixer and signal converter for the aviation headsets. I can live with mono sound from a music source when flying (no real need to be to luxurious about it music will be enough of a luxury as it is).Such is my plan. I will be starting out with the link I put up at the beginning though. The Baron 58 builders signal converter project. You may find it will do everything you need.Hope that helps.Ron
