July 30, 200916 yr Hi,I notice from the speed placard that gear EXTENSION speed is HIGHER at Flap 9 than clean. Why is this?Best regards,Robin.RSR can (and will) smack me over the head if I'm wrong on this, but I think the reason is because the lower AoA at Flaps 9 reduces the wind resistance that would otherwise be trying to keep the gear from extending out into the slipstream, allowing a higher VLO.With a "clean" configuration, the AoA is obviously higher, and the slipstream actually acts to prevent the gear from coming out, hence the lower VLO.The CRJ does this too. If you're near VLO - but still within limits - it's common to get a GEAR DISAGREE aural alert with a red gear handle. Because of the initial difficulty of pushing the nose gear out into the breeze, the gear isn't down and locked within 10 seconds of moving the handle, thus generating the CAS message.Nick
